Bronx's dad (GA)

Hello all, hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Bronx's acro tumor must be taking a siesta and he is hitting lime greens left and right. I leave Monday morn for 2 nights and pet sitter will only be able to test at shot time. Not sure what to tell her about dosing? Thanks!

Yes, but only when she comes at shot time. My dad will take care of the in between feedings but he cannot test.
Gotcha. And you still have tomorrow. Go down to 8 units and see how he does. If he’s in the blues or yellows, I would leave it at that dose until you get back. Better high than low while you are away, at least that’s what I would do. You can get him under tighter control when you get back. Also, it’s great that your dad will be there between feedings so he can watch for any unusual behavior (excessive drinking/urinating, lethargy, etc).

And if he’s still low or uncomfortably close to low on 8, you can go down to 7.

Hi Paul, nice to see Bronx in single digit doses ;). I recall reading for "vacation doses" ideally you start the dose a few days early, and see how the kittie does. It looks like you only have a couple of cycles to try out a pet sitter dose, and Bronx still has a lot of depot behind him, hitting limes. I was going to ask about feeding, glad to see Bronx will have food available. Just thinking out loud, it's only a couple of days, what do you think about no shot tonight to drain depot a bit, then I think it looks like you have a couple of cycles before you go...maybe try around 7u? No R in the mix, right? I think Wendy might be travelling, not sure if she will see your post right away.

If he's still low at shot time, I may skip tonight. Yep, no R in the mix.
Sounds good, and just a suggestion, even if there is a bit of a higher number tomorrow at preshot, if you decide 7u is the pet sitter dose, I'd just stay the course with 7u, that may help settle him down a bit? I feel for you, I hate the thought of leaving Mav, let alone when he's having crazy cycles. You may still get better suggestions from folks with big gulpers, but hope it helps a little.

He was just 79 at shot time, but that's also food influenced, after his 39 at +10. I only gave him 4u. I figure I can be with him tonight so will do the drain-the-depot no-shot tomorrow morn if need be, since I'll be leaving about 2hrs aft shot time. Timing of this trip stinks!

Wow ... Bronx is in single digits! :D That’s awesome, but the timing isn’t the greatest. :cat:
Behave and stay safe, Bronx.
I can't help but think how other acros like Gizmo & Capt Jack also went quickly down the dosing ladder, which was actually the beginning of the end :(.

We had our sitter give a token dose. Even though Rusty’s dose is so small, the token drop didn’t even register. I could have given fur shots! Anyway, no harm was done. i suspect that a small dose would work just fine for Bronx. He’ll get back on track when you get home. Have a good trip.

Good to see some dosage reduction. Too bad about the timing. Leo's vet told me one thing when Leo got diabetes 3 years ago "Keep Leo safe."

I have taken that as a mantra. So my recommendation would be to reduce his dose while you are gone. And you should have clear instructions:
- dosages for AMPS and PMPS
- very very clear instructions on "this is 8.0 units in the syringe", "this is 9.0 units in the syringe"
- hypo instructions and supplies

We are even worse. We never even leave Leo anymore. Even we make mistakes, and we can't bear the thought of someone else messing up Leo's dosage or feeding. Just this week Leo had a hypo because we missed his 3pm feeding. He eats multiple small meals/day, and that component is important for his BG to stay up.

Your pet sitter will be texting you or calling you with the numbers before shooting if they are questionable or within a certain low range? I think by draining the depot and a reduced dose, he will be fine. It's only 2 days. Best Of Luck on your trip.

Yes, she can call after the test. Yeah, only 2 nights. Next month is a 4-nite trip :nailbiting:.

+9 is 360, I guess the depot is drained from the BCS that may have been a FS

He won't let me pack my bag haha. Spot on back is shaved for the pet sitter

Sorry, just got back home late last night. Remember that the larger depots can influence up to six cycles after the reduction so you could have been seeing some 12 unit depot influence. A couple of days of lower doses will be fine, he will recover.

As for SRT, it works in fits and starts. Bronx has come down already from a much larger dose. Neko plateaued at some doses for quite a few months before the tumour cells died off again and reductions began anew. SRT neuter the cells, you have to wait for them to live their live and die.
