Pita's Dosing Party: 14

Way to be brave, Caitlin! And that looks like a lovely flat cycle today from Pita. Hope you're both enjoying your Saturday!

Pretty consistent numbers the past couple days. Wish he had gone a bit lower mid-cycle, but that's just me being greedy! He and Brat were up and causing a huge ruckus around 4:30 this morning. Not sure if that's what resulted in a higher AMPS. Matt actually tested twice and that was the median. Shot 2.4 units and looking forward to seeing what we get as the day goes. 109 @ +4 though, so that's better!

Pita's spreadsheet is the strangest thing! He just keeps cycling down in dose, and then back up in dose, and then back down and then....

I've spent way way way too much time studying spreadsheets on here and honestly, I've never seen anything quite like it. He is a unique little guy! And you (and now Matt too) do such a fantastic job staying on top of it and making the changes that need to be made right away. You really take amazing care of Pita! If you change your mind about acting, you should go to vet school!

Oh Djamila, thank you I needed that! I was just about to post 'Well, back up we go...'! I don't understand it! I try to remind myself that in all reality none of us have pribaprofully acclimated yet (less than a year) as far as things in our bodies that we don't understand. I may be wrong, but I know my body is still getting used to it. We use the humidifier every day and I just started the fish oil a couple days ago, so I'm hoping that will help their skin also. I'm planning lots of testing today- maybe he's going lower later in the cycle? Or he's just being strange and will come back down soon. We shall see o_O

Hello all! So we've been having some nice, consistent numbers the past few days. I've discovered also that he seems to be the lowest at +7 lately. Tricky tricky! I'm wondering though if I should try 2.5 this weekend to see if we can get some nice greens again. Not sure if I'm just being picky in wanting him to go a little lower. Please send thoughts!

This might not matter since you got an 88 last night, but with Sam, if I have two cycles in a row without a green, and no known cause for it, I do an increase. And my preference is that his greens are under 80, although that doesn't always work. This week I'd be thrilled to see any green (he's running really high right now and my work schedule kept me from testing much). So all that to say no, I don't think you're being too picky. Your mid-cycles (114 and 118) aren't bad at all, and if you're busy or just want to not worry about him for a couple of days, it's fine to leave him there, but there's nothing wrong with bringing him down a bit more if you're around and don't mind.

As for adjusting to the climate in LA, it took me a couple of years, I think. It's really dry down there (and this is coming from someone who spent many years living on the edge of the Sahara Desert!)

Thank you for that reassurance! I think we'll increase a smidge and try the 2.5 units tonight. I really like that thought process of what you do regarding no midcycle greens! Oh gosh, yeah I try to remind myself to stop expecting everything/one to be adjusted because it just hasn't been that long. So thank you for that as well

You lived on the edge of the Sahara??? Okay, you've got to tell us what that was like!!!
I second that!!

I don't want to hijack Caitlin's thread so I'll keep it short :): I grew up in a few different places, but spent a number of years in Morocco which is the northwestern part of the Sahara - and it's also right by the Atlantic and Mediterranean, so even though you're right by the desert, it can still be rather humid (which is why LA felt so dry to me). If you ever get a chance to go visit, it's really an extraordinary landscape!

I swear the strips are good, but Pita had the same number three times yesterday! Anywho, he woke me up at 2am with a +6 of 67. 218 AMPS so I'm actually giving 2.4 units this morning. May be wrong, but it seems a bit bouncy to me. So we'll see!

I havent shot yet but now I'm wondering if I should stay at the 2.5 since he just hit a nice green. Errrr. I'll stick with my gut of 2.4 and readjust as necessary.

198 PMPS. Pita woke me up a bit before his midnight snack and I ignored him (timed feeder). I heard it unlock and he went and ate. Few minutes later he was back meowing at me. I got up and there was still a lot of food left. Began testing and he didn't want to sit like he normally does. Well, I told him that he woke me up so I was poking him! @+3.75 he was at 46. Fed him 1 Tbsp gravy food and I plan to wake Matt up to test him next so I can try to sleep before early work. Needless to say, whatever his AMPS is, I'm going down to 2.3 units.

I'm so puzzled! Pita has had nice AMPS numbers on the 2.3 units but then has over 200 PMPS numbers. Which is strange to me because he relaxes all day and then is super active at night lately. Anywho, I decided to see if giving 2.4 this am would give us a lower PMPS. So far, his midday numbers have been meh (to me). I told Matt to most likely stick with the 2.4 again tonight so I guess we'll see what we get later. It's just weird and I'm a bit stumped on where to go from here o_O

Huh. that is tricky. it kind of looks like that lime green the other night might have just been an anomaly. I suppose it's also possible that he's going low later in the cycle at night, and the daytime higher numbers are like a mini-bounce? I think I'd stick with the 2.4u as you said, and if it's too much you'll likely see another lime green soon enough.

:bighug:
Yup. Up. Gently though since he was at 63 a couple of nights ago. Maybe a little more during the AM cycle, but leave the PM cycle?

Sam is heading up too. I swear we share a cat.

Aaaah what is happening?!! We tried the 2.6 this am and I was planning to give 2.5 this evening but now I'm not sure I shouldn't stick with the 2.6 again...? 215 AMPS, 200 @ +5.25

Matt and I were just talking. We went for a walk today and I was so hot and exhausted at the end that I got home and collapsed. We don't have AC and even though our apartment actually stays pretty cool during the day, I'm curious if the weather is affecting him at all. Literally nothing about his behavior has changed or is different. There may not be an answer regardless and I may never know even if there is an answer!

I can't win! 137 AMPS, shot 2.6 Then 83 @ +3, 39 @ +5. Just gave him 1 tsp gravy food and will retest soon. It's like 2.5 wasn't enough and now 2.6 is too much?! Maybe it should be 150 and above give him 2.6, below 150 give 2.5? I just don't know

49 @ +6. Gave another 1 tsp gravy food and have to run out. I'll test again when home but figure it's nearing the end of it's cycle.

I actually like this plan, Caitlin. Maybe tweaking the dose a bit like this will help keep things in better, but safe, numbers?

78 @ +8
I'm working tonight so Mattel be test/dosing. I'm a bit concerned he may have a green or very low blue PMPS and I'm not sure if 2.5 would be too much. Thoughts? I know it's hard when I don't have a real number.

Sorry Caitlin, I was wiped out last night! And it looks like my advice of 2.5 was too much!

Not a problem! Yeah, another reduction evidently! I'm thinking along the same lines and maybe giving 2.3 for 150+ and 2.2 for 150-
I feel like even the 2.4 might be too much since he hit lime green for basically 24 hours. Well, not the whole time but you get the idea!

@Rachel @Djamila @Kris & Teasel

I don't want to make a new 911 post but I need guidance!
151 AMPS, shot 2.3 as planned for above 150.
Just tested @ +3.75 and he's at 30. Mind you, before this he was playing with us then curled up on the bed. I just fed 1 tsp of FF Gravy food and will retest in 15 minutes. I'm doing my best to remain calm, in just nervous that he's gone so low lately that he'll eventually go hypo.
** How in the world do I get him up higher when it's only +4?!**

41 @ +4. Gave another 1 tsp gravy food. Will retest in another 15 and give more food as necessary. Once he's above 50, I'll retest 30 minutes after since we're not even at nadir yet.

My hypo kit is out and ready but zero symptoms right now. I reread all the info and have been monitoring closely.

You already know this, but it’s going to be a long day of feeding and testing for you guys! When do you think he typically hits nadir these days?

Hah, yes it will be! It looks to be around +5 or +6 lately.

WOW Pita! Slow down! :) I mean, it's great that you're responding to the insulin, but geez!

You're doing great Caitlin. Pita is going to be JUST FINE...you're at +5, he's in good numbers. I don't think I'd go any higher than 2 units tonight either. I'm thinking the lime greens of late may have made him a little extra sensitive. I like your plan above (I know I know...I said that before! But this is a big reduction and I think that's just a good plan right now).

83 @ +6
Thank you SO MUCH for the support and encouragement. I'll see what PMPS brings and will stick with the new dosing. Meanwhile, he's now relaxing in a box in front of the window.
