Thank you in advance for your help with this.
Our Winchester was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago and since then he has gone into remission, become diabetic again, and now appears to be transient. Winchester had one unit of insulin Friday morning. His blood sugar has been hovering around 150 since then and he’s hasn’t had any further insulin. When he was first diagnosed, he had a very scary incident of DKA.
Winchester also has heart disease, asthma, and kidney issues related to his diabetes. He takes furosemide, benazepril, pimobedan, and inhaled fluticasone to manage those.
Winchester has had an upset stomach since last week and has vomited several times. We have been to the ER vet twice. Two sets of X-rays came back clear. All blood work also appears normal (no kidney concerns, no pancreas concerns, mild dehydration).
He also had some yellow eye goop discharge yesterday. That appears to mostly have cleared up. We moved in December and adopted a new kitty about 6 weeks ago. Winchester is a pretty chill cat and has handled it all well. New kitty and him are getting along well. Maybe related?
Winchester hasn’t had a full meal since Friday morning and it is now Sunday morning. He’s had a few nibbles and water, but his appetite is not normal at all. The vet gave him an appetite stimulate and Pepcid on Saturday morning.
The ER vets have been helpful, but I am concerned that they are missing something. My last experience with them give me a bad gut feeling. His main vet is now 2 hours away and has consulted via phone and email. I will probably bring him there tomorrow. In the meantime, what should I do?!
