Stopped insulin on my Squeakers

First off THANKS to ALL who helped me through the Hypo episode yesterday.
Squeakers gradually went up and is doing well.
Here are today's BG levels
7 am .... 426 then fed
8 am .... 421
9 am .... 409
11 am ... 387
1 pm .... 310
1:20 pm fed
Will retest in 20 to 30 min

Not sure but he is going down on his own ???? I called the Vet and asked what tests they used to determine his Diabetes and they have not called me back yet.
 
Right, he does seem to be coming down. Those are still high numbers but it's definitely worth continuing to test to see how low he does come (it could be a bounce from the really low numbers he got, and that bounce can last a day or something more). I'd keep on checking every two-three hours and wait for things to stabilise before starting insulin again. (And when you do get there, post here for advice on the dose.)

The vet's answer will be really helpful.
 
Hi, I was just coming on to say exactly what Stephanie just did-- he's coming down a bit, and the high numbers you saw earlier could be what we call a "bounce". Basically, that's when a kitty's body reacts to very low BG numbers (like Squeakers saw yesterday) by dumping extra sugars into the bloodstream. They can last up to three days, but it doesn't seem like he's planning on keeping to that schedule (famous last words!). But the thing to do now is to just sit tight, see where he goes.

Is he eating well now? Is he back to eating his low-carb canned?
 
Do I understand correctly that his stools are better on the dry food than on the canned he ate before? (There is some confusion for me about this. I'm not an IBD specialist but I would go for the food that doesn't give him diarrhea.)
 
Wait, there's an IBD issue? I missed that, I thought the diarrhea yesterday was a one-time thing.

There's always a balance that needs to be struck when there are multiple issues. With respect to FD, low-carb canned food is best-- we use the high carb to bring them out of hypos (like yesterday), but in general avoid carbs as much as possible. For some kitties, a few carbs can be the difference between insulin-dependence and remission! That said, if there's IBD in the mix, as Stephanie says you'd rather have a happy cat who gets insulin than a miserable one who doesn't get insulin but has constant diarrhea. So you do what you can.

Yes he is eating the low carb okay but he keeps taking me to the fridge for he wants something better he likes hotdogs and wants that so has slowed down on eating the can food but he has eaten about 1/3 of the 22 oz can today. I mix water with it so I make sure he keeps hydrated.

The diarrhea was just once yesterday he gets it occasionally as we all do.

The Vets office finally called me back they used blood they drew for glucose test and also urine. The did not do Fructosamine
 
Still running high, but I'd still hang tight on the shots for a bit longer as long as he's eating and otherwise seems fine. If it's a reaction to the lows, you could potentially have high numbers for a couple more days..

Well I am pretty positive he has the diabetes but he went so low even with .5U I am unsure how much to give him and the vet SUCKS the receptionist called me about the tests they performed and when I asked questions about him dropping so low she said she would have a Dr call me but I never got a call.
