Hi, All, I have Obi, who is 18, has IBD and chronic pancreatitis. He may be diabetic, we are still doing his workups. When the pancreas flares, so do his blood sugars. In the past, his blood glucose has subsided eventually to normal. He is currently on Royal Canin Rabbit novel protein and sometimes venison; that is for his IBD. I was also giving him RC hydrolyzed protein. REcently I was told that the RC canned formulas are high in carbs, and in truth, his fructosamine levels have increased on these foods. So : I need a good alternative. Pls no suggestions of raw or dry. I need a good low carb canned food, preferable novel protein. Any suggestions? I sure hope so.

I fed the chicken and venison flavors of Natural Balance L.I.D. to my long time diabetic suspected of IBD for a while. It looks pretty high in phosphorus, but so is the Fancy Feast that my cats eat.
Here's a food chart that is very easy to search, put together by one of our members who is also a vet Dr. Lisa Pierson who writes CatInfo.org which is filled with information and I would suggest reading all you can.

Hi, Dyana: what concerns me about the Natural Balance LID - is the green peas. I am trying to stay away from peas, rice, chickpeas, etc - cats dont need that stuff. I know a lot of members feed Fancy Feast. I have been pouring over Dr. Lisa's chart, as posted by another member - so far, I am coming up with Hounds and Gatos - gamebird, duck, Rabbit and lamb. Since both cats have been eating rabbit and venison, probably best for me to start with the rabbit formula and see how that goes. Very difficult. Which Fancy Feast formula do your cats eat?

My cats ate the Classic, Flaked, Chunky, and Roasted. My diabetic cat J.D. passed away at 20 :( He was diabetic for 9 years. The two cats I have now (14 and 3.5 years old) are not diabetic and eat a variety of Fancy Feast except I try to limit the fish flavors.

Are you in the US? Is phosphorus a concern (CKD)?

Whole Earth Duck (Petco)
SOULISTIC - Pate and Shreds Lamb (Petco)

I'm in the same situation as you and the two that are working best for me right now are Blue Wilderness Duck Pate and Nature's Variety Instinct Duck Pate. Neither of them are 100% novel protein but my guy would starve before eating any that are and these two seem to be tolerable to his digestive system. Any of the others that have a bit more chicken, turkey, or fish will cause a pretty bad flare up. Even the high-quality, limited ingredient stuff. So this is a compromise to keep his BG under control while not upsetting his bowels. Like you, I'm always looking for better options that he's willing to eat.
