From the ProZinc sticky:

  • The proper sequence for dosing insulin is: Test/Feed/Shoot. In the beginning, if your cat’s BG is not up to at least 200 mg/dL {11 mmol/L}, if your schedule allows, you can stall (without feeding) for 20+minutes, then retest the BG. You are looking for a number that is rising, not falling and up to 200 mg/dL {11 mmol/L}. If you stall once, but can’t do another round of stalling and your cat hasn’t reached a BG of 200 mg/dL {11 mmol/L}, you’ll need to skip the dose and wait until the next cycle. NOTE: Because pet-specific meters (such as theAlphaTrak2) often read higher than human meters, you may want to adjust the NO-SHOOT number to 225 mg/dL {12.5 mmol/L} or even 250 mg/dL {14 mmol/L} This gives you an added margin of safety when using an AlphaTrak2 or other pet-specific meter.

You got great data last night! :) Lost a lot of sleep though ... o_O If you're home through the day today, try to get one test between +5 and +8. You won't have to test a lot like last night very often. Most of the the time 3 or 4 tests a day will give you the info you need.

Based on last night's curve, this 1.4 u dose is quite good. If this yellow/blue trend continues it tells you you're near Pepper's "good control" dose range. My guess is that it'll be around 1.6 u or so. The BG data will tell us.

I suggest you hold this dose tonight and get a before bed test (in addition to that daytime test I mentioned above). Do you work days through the week? What are your hours from leaving the house to arriving back home? I don't want any of this to be a burden to you. I just know that you're getting there with her dose and a bit more structure in your testing routine will get her (and you!) feeling better on many levels.

Here to support you ... :bighug:

I work Mon-Fri. I leave at 530am and don't return until 5pm. So all of her testing is done amps, PMPS, +4 on weekday evenings and any time on weekends. She seems to be doing ok today, as well. She seems very tired today, and she's not begging for food (not complaining about that).

I'm so excited about her numbers today. I increased her miralax to 1/4 tsp 2x a day and shes pooping good too. I'm wondering if the good numbers have something to do with pooping.

My guess is that they are related. Constipation is known to raise BG in many kitties because they don't feel well when they're bunged up.
