Before the weekend & vet visit
Very flippin chilly here.
Ty & Dusty have settled OK into the new night-time quarters . Just as well really as this is not a cat motel and there are only so many areas suitable. Make that one really. I could of course create more space by shifting husband out into the carport or garage with a tarp of his own, a camping 'closet' & all his bloke stuff clutter , giving me and pusscats more space. Except the garage might be hard pushed to fit him in as it is already full of junk.....oops I did mean important bloke stuff. Honestly I did.
Ty's vet check up was uneventful as such. He was calm and collected whilst there, although none too keen of course. They always suggest or ask about clipping his claws as they are none too enamoured of his left hook, anymore than he is fond of the pokes , prods and jabs. He did not disgrace himself or his dignity during the journey there or back. He has been known to dump out The Gift to express his ire.
His BP was done whilst he was in my arms. Keep on with the meds. His heart was fine. They took enough blood for assorted bloodwork testing and we agreed it is more than time to have the fTLI done given that Ty's weight is slowly slipping away despite that he eats extremely well.He weighed in at under 4.6kg when he should be over 5kg really. For me in NZ this test costs a good $700 so mighty money but that's fine as I still have the holiday & Go Home savings that we can't now do. It will take 2 weeks to get a result from the USA.
Poking and prodding did not yield any lumps or bumps to cause alarm. Nothing felt 'enlarged'.
I need to drop in a urine sample on Tuesday as his bladder was empty. This is to check for any UTI and the like. From a phone call later on from the vet Ty's initial results show that his kidneys are stable, some of the results were better than last time. Same for the liver. I will hopefully be able to pick up the full test results on Tuesday. I know potassium levels were to be checked .
We talked Pentosan but the vet guided me to try a supplement called Synoquin for a month first. This is alongside a very small dose of Metacam. See what the difference is in 4 weeks , if any. Happy enough to give it a go. Pentosan remains an option .
He was pleased with the far improved gait. The lack of neuropathy.
Vet is happy enough with Ty's BG levels and is relaxed about his numbers despite them being much lower than vets in general prefer. That is because he is happy that I understand what I am seeing and doing with regard to Ty's diabetes. He also knows that I would call him in the event of any issue .
Ty's white cell count is still a bit low per the vet. His gums a little pale . Pressed for a thought , his gut feeling is IBD in play. I need to think more about that. Ty is a moggy but there is definitely more than a bit of Burmese in there somewhere so he would be prone to this. Ty doesn't vomit but we all know his rear end is a creature all of its own with its own mind. Oddly though & this is the kiss of splats in even writing this, his rear end has been quite well behaved of late.
I loves my Ty I does.
