Hi Everyone,

I wish my cat was easy to regulate but I can definitely say he's not.

I recently saw some yellows while on 6 units but those have now disappeared. I'm wondering if I went past a good dose or if I should continue to increase to 7.5 units in the AM?

I've also considered switching to levemir because Lantus doesn't seem to be working.

I've been thinking about doing bloodwork for acromegaly and IAA. Would it make sense to also do a full panel including pancreatitis?

At this point, I would increase by 0.5 units at a time, and every 6 cycles, unless you see green. You will get there. There is a dose for every cat. :bighug:You have been increasing safely, I don't think you've bypassed a good dose.

I would also do the IAA and IGF-1 (acromegaly) tests. Is he showing signs of pancreatitis? That by itself would not explain his need for more juice. How are his teeth?

When you get to higher Lantus doses, the acid base can sting. A switch to Levemir may help. Post here for dose advice before you do switch. And switch, if you do, when you can monitor closely, as some cats have an initial strong reaction in the first couple cycles to the switch.

He's lethargic with less of an appetite than he has had lately. He's still occasionally ravenous. He hasn't liked me near his abdomen since he was diagnosed. He frequently seems bloated.

When I take him in for the blood work, I will get them to take a good look at his teeth.

Depending on how his numbers are, I plan to switch to levemir in just over a week when I'm on vacation so I'll be around to keep an eye on him and check his sugar levels frequently. When you say that some cats have a strong reaction in the first couple cycles, what type of reaction do they have? Do you mean that they might drop really low?

Yes, that is a strong reaction. We've seen kitties who had barely seen yellow, dive to low green the first day of Lev. For that reason we typically start at 70% of the Lantus dose.
