So angel has her first UTI. I got home from work and bf said she’s had diarrhea and frequent peeing. 10 mins later off to the animal ER and they were able to get a urine sample and confirm the UTI. they gave us 10 days of oral antibiotics and said she should be ok. One thing that has been bothering me is that the doctor said there was no glucose in her urine. Does anyone know why that would be?

Also, we had a terrible night tonight trying to get her to eat. Which isn’t good because of giving insulin and then her getting too low. What do you guys do when kitties have UTI’s and upset tummies from antibiotics? I don’t wanna NOT give insulin and risk DKA.

this sucks. :(

I’m not sure hope someone replies soon, hope kitty gets to feeling better soon, sending vines and :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sorry she's not feeling well. Should clear up quickly with antibiotics. There's no glucose in the urine because her numbers have been nice and low. She's been under the Renal threshold for a few days. It doesn't spill into the urine until it's over about 250

Is she on AB? If so, which one(s)? Liquid/pill/shot?

Do you use slippery elm bark or marshmallow root (slurry)? They are kinda like the human Pepto (do not give pepto). They coat and sooth the GI track including the lining of the stomach. The only issue is you can NOT give meds +2/-2 hours when giving it (so that makes it difficult giving multiple meds or around your schedule).

Best to give AB after food () I know that is difficult to do when they are not eating.

Can you see if you can get Cerenia and/or Ondan from the vet? Tell them your concerns about upset tummy.

Also, Probiotic added to food (or given in capsule) can help with diarrhea.

Clavomox. She seems to be feeling a little better. Gave insulin, she ate then I gave AB just now.

My go-to when Luci is finicky is crushed freeze dried salmon or chicken - stinks - so if I sprinkle just a little over her FF she will usually eat the part that has the stinky sprinkles over it. I get my freeze dried chicken/salmon from Amazon since none of the stores around here carry it. Best of luck with Angel and that UTI - I know personally they are no fun :(

That's funny you say don't give pepto. My vet told me to give pepto (I didn't) not he said to try it.

Did they send the urine to be cultured? I had a cat that got UTI's constantly. Sending for culture is the best way to go about it because the report comes back and tells the vet exactly the best antibiotic to treat that particular strain. I found when we didn't do the culture, it was just a guess as far as the best treatment and sometimes it didn't fully clear it up.

No. She’s 15 and 1.5 years into being diagnosed with diabetes and has never had a UTI. if it becomes something that happens again we will for sure do that though. :)
