Hamilton was diagnosed with full blown renal failure today. We are starting subq fluids and preparing to say goodbye to our sweet little man.

As he is currently fighting pneumonia, he will be staying at home and remaining as comfortable and happy as possible.

Oh Elizabeth, I’m so sorry to hear this. Vines of comfort for sweet Hamilton. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, as I don’t know details of the situation or what’s going on, but I wanted to share this bit of information just in case it might be useful to you. I was told in January by my vet that Asia was in end stage renal failure and it turned out that wasn’t actually the case (she had a kidney infection which spiked her numbers and caused her to crash a bit). I’ve found, like FD, sometimes vets are not so well versed in CKD. It’s not always so clear cut when it’s the end, sometimes on paper it can look that way and they can come back from pretty off the charts numbers. Details here:

We are all here for you. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

This doesn’t sound insensitive at all. We’re running a culture with this hope in mind, but his CKD has been progressing and we understand it is a long shot.

(((Elizabeth))) My deepest sympathy to you. :bighug::bighug: I hope you have some good quality time yet with Hamilton. Kiss Hamilton on the top of his head from me.

Acromegaly is hard on kidneys, Neko had CKD for a couple years.

Thank you all for your support. We adopted Hamilton at 10yrs old from a feline clinic. He was given to the clinic by a man who in the span of months had lost his friend living with him and his wifely , their friend’s cat, and then his wife. He couldn’t care for himself, much less Hamilton. We had to meet him in order to adopt Hamilton as he made the vet promise to care for him for the rest of his life. After meeting him, we kind of adopted him too. He is alone and Hamilton is the last connection he has to his wife. He does not want to see Hamilton because he cannot bear the grief. Please extend your love and thoughts to him, too, in this time. We love him deeply and while we have each other and the rest of our pack, he does not. He could use every piece of love and peace during this time.
