Help!!!

@Gretchen(sugarbaby)&bobbi , did you give the shot?
Are you going to be able to monitor during the first few hours of the cycle (assuming you gave the shot)?

Can you clarify what dose of insulin you're currently giving? (The SS says "0.02", but you're talking about giving a unit now?)

And I realise this is all stressful. (((Hugs)))

understand sizes of syringes but not units. I’m giving 2 units 3/10cc 5/16th 31 gauge. The needle bent I figured out after I posted this. Gretchen is fairly fluffy with bunny like hair and undercoat. I need a longer thicker gauge needle. I have some other strings but these diabetic aren’t interchangeable.

I’m sorry I am just stressing. I hit last night and this morning I got my first ever reading below 200. Now it’s sky high. I can’t monitor her if I give 1 more unit.

I'm confused as to what her normal dose is as well. We're you giving 2 units but wrote it in the spreadsheet as 0.2?

Edit. Nevermind you just answered the question.

2 units I believe. I’ll tey to get a picture. I totally know size and gauge but this whole unit thing with different size syringes has me apinning. Let me try to get a pic

Sorry for typos...I’m thumb typing on phone...
It's OK. Take your time. :bighug:

It may be that her blood glucose dropped lower than she was comfortable with, and then 'bounced' up high in response to that. But we need to see more data to work out what is going on.

I can’t monitor her if I give 1 more unit.
If you've not yet given the shot, then I'd suggest skipping it.

The general advice with a 'fur shot' (where some but not all insulin has gone in) is to skip, because you cannot know how much went in. And there is a possibility of overdosing....

The second box of syringes has a longer needle.... Try it.
In the meantime..I know there’s a chart but can

Yes I did decide against...too much time has gone by.

Thank you guys for replying. I feel like I’m sinking.

Oh I was going to ask if I could use a U40 syringe but thought I had deleted.
I know I can but I’m afraid the “units” would totally throw me for a loop.
I know my ss is all messed up...somebody pointed that out to me and I haven’t had a chance to fix it

No no no your insulin is for u100.... The u40 syringes is not for you. Some that have u40 insulin use u100 syringes so it's easier to see, and do smaller fractional doses, but not the other way around.

I am sure this time the needle bent and it went on my hand. I felt and smelled it.
I don’t know if it will help..but here’s a graph of her levels. The huge spike was a miss

For example your dose of 2 units with a u 100 would be a 0.8 in a u40. There's no way to accurately dose that.

I wouldn't shoot more either. You just don't know how much went in. And for all we know, 2u might be too high of a dose to begin with.

Take a deep breath, I know this is stressful. It's hard not to chase the numbers and want to fix things quickly, but high BG kills slowly whereas low BG kills quickly. As they say, better too high for a day than too low for a minute.

Also, Novolin N is a harsh and not very forgiving insulin. It hits hard and until you get more data throughout the cycle, you don't know how low it's taking her mid cycle.

lol in the mid 80s I did the first year of the nursing program. We got to the dosing, units and all that and I had to retake that test 4 times and almost lost my place. Luckily I went into radiology and don’t deal with that at all! I’m just flat dumb when it comes to this stuff.

Congratulations on your first number under 300! I didn't see that until I was three months and 3 units in. Lol

Sorry you lost your other kitty. :(
She was IBD. It was a sad sad day. Mobile vet couldn’t get out here until 7p so I sat and held and loved her all day. It was so bittersweet. She was 17.
I’ll let you get sleep now...again thank you so much! I’ll just keep trying and order those syringes right now.thank you so much.

It's a marathon. I have to be up in 15 min. No more sleep for me.
