Sub Q Injections and Insulin

We have started sub q injections once again as she is becoming dehydrated even though I include a lot of water in her food. She is definitely out of sorts with the skin irritation and scratching.

Anyway - Started on Monday and today is the third day. My question is: Should there be a set period of time between the insulin injection and the sub q by the vet?

I have not heard of a set time as such.
I was advised, thou, to give SQF at a different time and in the different site than the insulin injections were going in to. For instance, if we were to give the SQF into the scruff area then the injections of insulin should have been done at another location - like flanks, or belly sides.

Okay thank you. I have been giving insulin on one side near front and letting the vet know which side and they are giving sub q on the other side near front. Perhaps I should wait a couple of hours between.

It think it's good idea - to have some "time cushion" in between the insulin shots and the SQF session.
I hope your girls recovers quickly.

I thank you for the kind thoughts. Not sure what brought on this relapse in itching and apparent infection. This time it’s affecting her appetite. Blood tests 10 days ago did not indicate anything in particular. I’m baffled as is the vet.

I have been giving sq for many years but Dre is my first diabetic and your instincts are great--a different spot or a few hours in between fluids and insulin.
I found this site that has some pretty awesome products and respond to email and have a vet connected to them. They have a product that will gently detox (I am doing it myself). I would put in capsules for kitty.

I would make sure calcium levels are ok if you look into the product ... it is a good question to ask them. I have not given to the cats yet they get so much stuff right now. but it is working good for me.

Thank you so much for the information and website. Unfortunately she is taking a calcium med as her levels were very low (calciocol). Still, I wonder if the external use would work on her skin. I’ll look into this more. Again, I thank you.
