Furball was happy & purry this morning. I hope she comes back down today.

Simba had a better day yesterday and was purring and loving.

Here is the link to Episode 4 of the Pet Cancer docu-seriers from last night in case you missed it.

@Tracey&Jones Episode 3 was about vaccines. They mentioned things I've heard before about how it can cause tumors at the injection site and pets are overvaccinated and getting a titer to see if the rabies vaccine is still in the system. One new thing they mentioned was the instructions that come with vaccines say only to give to healthy pets. I've didn't know that. They also mentioned small pets get the same dose as large pets and with some vaccines that is too much. They said the rabies vaccine needs the full dose no matter what the size though. So far these episodes have been mainly giving information, but not really telling what you can do to help if you pet already has cancer. I'm hoping the later episodes will do that.

I see a blue AMPS!
Happy to hear that both kitties were purring and happy!
I must find time today to start watching that show!

I'm glad Simba had a better day yesterday.

I haven't watched your videos, but I have shared your links with a friend, her cat has SCL and LCL, so thank you for sharing those.

The ketones thing, ketosis isn't a danger by itself, it becomes dangerous when ketones are produced along with lack of insulin, that's what can cause DKA and why it's dangerous for diabetics. There is a popular diet called Keto diet that takes advantage of ketosis to lose weight. It's a low carb, high fat and protein diet. I'm confused at how ketosis could starve cancer of sugar because of glycogensis. The brain will always need sugar and the body will make it if it's not available from food. I don't understand why the cancer wouldn't take the sugar the body makes for the brain? Might go watch that one.

Injection site sarcomas are such a thing, that whenever my cats have had to get a vaccine, I ask for them in the leg, that way, if one develops, they can amputate the leg. I don't remember where I learned that, but it was a long time ago. Many vets use the leg for injection because of the risk, some still don't know any better. There's not much they can do if it develops in the scruff. :( Vaccines tax your immune system, it's what they were designed to do, get it working and busy and create antibodies. So if you're already sick and your immune system is otherwise tied up, it's a bad idea to have them, but I'm sure many vets ignore this just as many human MDs do. I don't know if it's the case for pet vaccines, but some human vaccines have live (weakened) virus in them (oral polio and flu mist come to mind) so if you're already sick, having that vaccine could mean the weakened form will be strong enough that you actually get the flu or polio from the vaccine itself. They don't use oral polio much anymore here because of that.

I hope you get to the meaty episodes soon and get some tips to help Simba. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

vaccines say only to give to healthy pets
I have had a talk with both Jones' IM vet and with one of the replacement vets we seen for mine on maternity leave about CKD civvie Rain. The only one they insisted on was the rabies due to the fact that both cats are low risk (don't go outside, don't go to a kennel, same cats in the home) but rabies has a human risk to it. It is transferable from a animal to a human. I was thinking about the titre test though when due.

I thought when they started talking about chemo and the toxicity of it they would offer an alternative but they didn't. I know there is a cancer diet but I don't know what it would be for a kitty.

@Stacy & Asia Thanks for clearing up the ketosis issue. Unfortunately you can't go back and watch old episodes. You can only watch the current one which is available until the next one starts at 9PM EST tonight. They are just over 1 hour long.

Is Simba already on a high fat and high protein diet?
I'm not sure. I haven't looked at the food list to see what she is eating. I assume the food list will tell me. I always get confused on the protein part. Is this diet what she should be on for cancer?

For my drooler that had cancer, that is what we feed during her chemo and after. I was cooking it...a recipe my vet gave me. It had lean meat (ground beef/chicken breast), oil, sweet potato (for the poop chute), peas on occasion and I crushed up dog vitamins and added to the mixture when cool. The vet called it a cancer diet. That is for a dog though. Which kind of went with the ketosis idea in the series. High protein, added fat (oil) with low carb.

Kitties requirements are so different though.

I've missed the series. So I can't go back to the first? In regards to the vaccine amount for rabies. I asked my vet about it when PJ was getting her initial shots. He said the size of the animal doesn't matter because you are "treating" the immune system. And that's the same in all animals. If I remember correctly the vaccines in the early 2000's were 3 yr vaccines. Those could create cancerous tumor. That's why it was given in hip or shoulder. Since it was a local cancer it could be removed through amputation of the limb. That's what my previous vet said and my current vet says.

@Love-Paula aka Woodsywife No you can't go back to the fist. Each episode is only available until they start the next episode. I think they want everyone to purchase them. The next one starts at 9PM EST tonight. Yesterday's episode is available until then. It is annoying.
