Good morning, kitties & beans!

Link to yesterday's condo.

Thank you for your entertaining responses during "The Moose Show" last night. :D I know that back to back reductions aren't recommended, but I decided to take another one today. "The Moose Show" generally doesn't come on in the daytime so his AM cycle likely won't be very active. We will see. I will be able to do a full curve today.

Moose was his normal begging for food self this morning. I'm excited for when DBF gets up for work and then Moose can come into the bedroom for weekend morning snuggle time :cat:

I'm hoping that brother dog Bo's vet appointment this morning will give some insight into his tummy issues. Dog gas is no joke! :stop:

Hugs and head bumps! Have a great Caturday! :p

Moose seems determined to make his forun visit short. I like that lol.

I am wondering if he had the beginning or an infection or irritation involving his teeth, and the quick cleaning the vet to remove tartar was what he needed. Cats are weird.
Haha, me too!

It sounds like he absolutely did. & I believe on my first post back, many people suggested that something could be going on with his teeth/mouth which would be increasing his BG. You are all so knowledgable!
:bighug:

I went back to bed for a little bit, and meant to wake up right at +2 but accidentally slept until +2.5. Moose does seem to have a pattern, so I knew I hadn't overslept TOO long.

+2.5 = 51.

Caught him just in time!

Moose's bed is on top of a few of those rubbermaid storage bins, because he likes to be high up (as most cats do!). That is where I test him, since it's a good height for me to access his ear without having to bend over. Anyway, I was just about to test him again and he hopped right on up to his bed and was waiting for me. DBF commented, "Wow, he is such a good cat. He hopped right up on to his bed for your to prick his ear. If I were a cat, I would be running in the other direction!."

I think that Moose just knows that after I prick his ear, he usually gets the yummy gravy  He's not dumb!

+3 = 50

I thought we were in for a special am edition of the Moose show. :joyful:

I'm glad he's surfing this time. Good boy, Moose! :cat:

I just saw the tag from @Stacy & Asia from the other day.

With his USG lower than 1.035 and his creatinine at 2.5, I would ask my vet to do a Super chem, CBC, and urinalysis and if she uses IDEXX labs, all the better because they do an SDMA to test for CKD. Larger well muscled cats cat have a higher normal creatinine. If he had had a lot of fluid or liquids before his urine test that resukt d I. The 1.032, then that might account for the lower USG.

You really want to aim for phosphorus levels around 200 mg P/100 kcal on an as Fed basis or less than 1.00% on a dry matter basis if you are looking at early CKD. You would want the P in the food to ideally be less than that if he was at Stage 2 or 3.

I did have Dr. Lisa do a balanced raw recipe for one of my kitties with CKD but it was certainly my labor intensive. I use Food Fur Life’s EZ Complete (EZC) now with my two kitties (non CKD) and love it. It is in the 200 mg P/100 kcal range. Here is a great resource for transitioning to raw. Patience is the key. Just as an example, my Tobey was already eating a raw diet (Primal) and also what I made using alnutrin. Even switching him from those to the raw with EZC, I had to transition him slowly because he didn’t like the smell of it at first. For two weeks, I just put a tiny bit of EZC raw on his plate next to his regular raw and once he got used to the smell, he started eating it and he loves it. I feed a rotation of venison, turkey, chicken, lamb, bison, and rabbit.

Thank you so much for the information! I will most definitely ask my vet to run those tests when I go back. She wants me to come back in a month and run blood work again, should I go back sooner than that? He is a pretty large cat, so that is a good possibility!

Ok got it, phos < 200 mg. Looks like the Tiki that I am feeding him currently is under 200 mg P / 100 kcal. I started him on the Rad Cat Turkey tonight, mixed 1 oz in with his Tiki. He ate it immediately with no bad reaction. I did not see your link about transiting to raw before I fed him, so I will be sure to read it as I do not want to do it the wrong way.

Thank you again!

Got home a little late, had to shoot about an hour late. I forgot how crowded the grocery store is only Saturday, pretty sure I stood in line waiting to check out for about 30 min!

PMPS = 151

Moose just ate and he was already jumping on the counter trying to get to the chicken that I was cooking for dinner  As noted above, I did start him on the Rad Cat Turkey this evening. It wasn't fully thawed yet but I still added about 1 oz to his regular food. He scarfed it right up!

I think a month is just fine :) You’re welcome :):):)
