Anyone with DKA experience, help needed in Lantus

If anyone can help, cat is at vet right now, vet possibly discouraging treatment as cat will be too hard to regulate after DKA? Smokey just came home from DKA treatment yesterday, first number tested was 21, wasn't eating well, back at vet and is in DKA again today.
