Jenks ate something last night that ended up really disagreeing with him. Around +8, it started coming out of both ends. He experienced repeated bouts of vomiting and mucousy stool so loose that he couldn't pinch it off. This laster until about +10.5 when it finally stopped and he found a quiet space to recover in the closet.

During that time, his BG slipped under 50. He refused to have any gravy, and the dry treats that he perked up came right back up a half hour later.

Mercifully, it looks like he purged everything from his system before AM shot time, but the lingering question was whether he'd have any sort of appetite, what would his BG be, and would it support any insulin considering the big drops he has early in the morning?

To answer each in turn: He had no appetite whatsoever. He just pushed the food away and went back to the closet. His BG was a shootable 58. However, with no food in him, a recent refusal of gravy or any other pick-me-up, an 8 point BG buffer, a BG that was likely influenced by a couple licks of gravy from a couple hours earlier, and a morning drop waiting in the wings, there's just no way we could risk giving him a shot this morning.

We were doing so great, and I hate doing anything that might derail all of our progress, but it's just not safe under the circumstances to give him a dose or any fraction of one. We're just going to have to let him rest and give him tummy time to recouperate, and hopefully get back on track in the PM.

Please Mr. Depot, don't let the numbers get too far out of line today.....

Aw, I'm sorry Jenks is having tummy troubles. I hope he feels better soon and it was a short bout of distress. I'm sure the depot will carry him, and one skip won't throw him off course much. I know it's a smaller dose for Jenks, but it's still a good bit of insulin and the more insulin, the longer it lasts. Healing vines to Jenks, you know it's serious when they refuse gravy!

How is Jenks doing this afternoon? Better? Does he still seem nauseated? If so, perhaps you need to ask your vet for a shot of Ondansetron or Cerenia. He may need fluids, too, especially if he's not drinking water.

Sending a truck load of vines your way. Please keep us posted

I hope so to. :bighug:

All of the happy tummy vines seem to have worked. Thanks everyone!

Even though the vomiting and loose stools had stopped several hours earlier, Jenks still wasn't ready to eat at the +3 feeding. He wasn't even excited about the prospect of a couple of dry treats, but eventually managed to eat them and keep them down. Despite the inappetance, he seemed ok otherwise. He was alert, mobile, purry, and lovey, but was clearly still nursing sensitive stomach. He spent all day out milling around the house instead of hiding away somewhere, so we took that as a good sign. He mostly spent a low key day resting nearby wherever OH was, probably to reassure her that he was ok and that there wasn't anything to worry about.

Later in the evening he started to perk up some more. I saw him start a wrestling match with his brother. Then, with about 15 minutes to shot time, I found him in the kitchen eagerly vacuuming crumbs of food from earlier feedings off of the floor. I was happy to see that he was exhibiting signs of hunger.

Before drawing a syringe, I first needed to see if he would eat, so I popped a can of one of his favorite flavors. He was pretty ravenous. He ate quite a bit and then rolled over right by the dish in the human equivalent of sitting back from the dinner table, undoing one's belt, and letting out a contented sigh. Hallelujah, Jenks ate!!!

But even more surprising was his BG. I expected him to be high after a no shot cycle, but nope. He was still green after all of that! Amazing!

He got his shot and is now snoozing away on the couch.

As for me, I'm beat after all of that and will probably do the same pretty soon.

Jenks came out just in time for testing. He's still green and surfing the 90s (not unusual to be very flat in a depot refilling cycle) and, better yet, he was ready to eat! Yay!
