Hi! I started Sweet Pea's shots last night. How can you tell if the insulin is getting in the skin?? The needle is so tiny and it's such a small amount of insulin! I feel her fur and skin around the injection site, and it's not wet at all. I'm giving her 1 unit and the Pharmacist showed me on the syringe that it's the second line from the end of the syringe. Does that sound about right? She's still urinating a lot and lethargic, but eating well and not drinking a lot of water. How long does it take to see an improvement in her? I can't wait to see her Vet on Thursday! I haven't tested her blood sugar yet because I can't figure out how to use the Lancet pen. I'm going to take all of Sweet Pea's testing equipment with me so I can test with the Vets assistance. TIA!

Take a big breath I know all can seem a little overwhelming.

It takes a long time for a cat to get regulated sometimes months so you will need a lot of patience, but you will probably notice some changes in a few days
Insulin has a strong smell so a lot of times when you give a fur shoot you can smell it or feel wet.

Most of us do not use the lancet we poke free hand I personally do not like it because I can't see precisely where I'm poking and my cat gets incredibly annoyed and upset with the noise it makes

Regarding the syringe does your syringe has half units markings?

Here's a photo of the one I use (I use bd with half markings ) where I marked 1unit hope it helps

If your syringes have half unit markings then yes it's the second line. If you inject and don't feel wet fur them you did it right.
 
Use the insulin smell as a test. Put your nose up to her fur where you injected. If it's a tiny bit damp or there's a very strong Band-Aid like smell that can indicate what we call a "fur shot".
