? Can't urinate

He usually urinates evert couple of hours because of his high levels.
And now he's going everywhere in the house trying to urinate be he can't. I went to a vet today who gave him an IM iron injection.
What can I do now, we don't have any emergency vet clinics here?
Now I'm noticing light blood stains in the litter box and still no urine

Does anything come out? At all? If it's a blockage that's very serious
 
Could it be because of the iron injection? Never had this problem and with the amount of water he drinks, he urintaes just fine. What is the reason?

Uti.... Diabetic cats are often prone to them because of the excess sugar in their urine.
 
I am sending healing vines for poor Farafero, please keep us updated.
That blood in urine might mean a lot of things bad and not too bad - tests are to be performed to pin point the cause but a course of antibiotics is a due, IMHO.
 
I need some help. His BGL is dropping and now it's 90. If he gets hypo can I give him some dry food?

It says 190 on your spreadsheet. Which is the correct number - 190 or 90? If it's 190 he'll be OK with no extra food. If it's 90 that's still a good number but you can give a small snack of regular low carb wet food to slow the drop.
 
190, That was two hours ago now he's 90.
I'm out of soft food but I'm feeding him chicken right now. And since dry food is high in carb, I was asking if I could give him some if he gets hypo

If he's 90 at +6 he likely doesn't need to be propped up with carbs. He at or close to nadir and probably won't go hypo.
 
IF you have a low number situation, it would be better to add a tad of honey or syrup to the chicken rather than dry food.

Dry food does work in a pinch , but it takes longer to boost numbers and then it takes even longer to leave the system. It's just not metabolized the same.

Taken from my mouth, seriously. :)
adding a few drops 3 - 4 - 5 like to a chicken meat should bring the BG up quickly up, and then leave.
Unlike dry kibbles food, honey or any "fast glucose" leaves the system fairly quickly while helping the BG elevation a lot. It does not stick around for long, unlike dry food or a wet food high in carbs content. Those two are said to keep BG elevated for days - in some cats.

Try to avoid dry food as much as possible, it is really not good at all for cats - healthy or not.
 
Thank you! I'm testing again in half an hour. Unfortunately he only ate a small piece, but I'm giving him some water with honey in a syringe.

This can be a true bladder infection or it can be cystitis without infection. It can be hard to tell them apart without a urine culture to see if any bacteria grow.

If it's a UTI, it's diagnosed by a urine culture. How about if it's stones, how do we know for sure. Because the vet I'm visiting tomorrow is a new one that is much cheaper. He has absolutely no experience on feline diabetes. I cannot afford to visit the more experts anymore.
 
I’m glad he’s urinating some. I was concerned there might be a blockage which is an emergency and would have required a trip to the ER. Please call your vet first thing in the morning. He could have a stone, crystals, or a UTI. If the antibiotic was for a urinary infection it was either the wrong antibiotic or he needs another round. Kidney infections can require an antibiotic for as long as amonth. Was a culture and sensitivity run I hope?

Nope, we never suspected a UTI because he didn't have any symptoms, except for the elevated WBC. I'll get a cupture soon.
Also he's urinating good again.
It it normal for a cat to urinate in one long stram then several short ones at the end?

His gums were bleeding and he had a high WBC, after the infection was gone, it came back a couple of weeks later and I repeated the last course. I'll see how his blood work comes back
 
Any update on Farafero? I hope the vet was able to sort it all out. Please let us know how he is doing, when you have a chance! :bighug:
 
Taking him to another vet. That one was useless.
But he is urinating normally.
Not eating though and throwing up.
 
I went to the vet and he told me it could have been a stone that passed. And if it happens again, he's ordering a culture. He was already taking too many antibiotics about a month ago. He's doing good right now and his appetite is much better.

Glad he’s urinating again. Just wanted to share an anecdote about how serious blockage can be. Many years ago I was alerted to my Bagha (a fighter) literally destroying another neighbourhood male he often fought with. I went to separate them and saw the other cat was not running away from me (I could normally never approach him). I took him straight to the vet. He died while waiting to be seen, of urinary blockage. His bladder was as large as a grapefruit. My vet was really angry: this cat had clearly not been well for a few days and the owners hadn’t reacted (they were clients of his, to make things worse).

So... if a cat can’t pee, or even is having trouble peeing, take action!

Glad you were able to see the vet and the blockage passed. Phew!

Vet needs to do it For infection check you need a sterile sample.

It's not the best way to check for infection because it's not sterile. If checking for crystals or other reason it's fine. I know my vet would not accept it and why gives antibiotics if not needed. JMHO.
