How often should you check your cats BG

Maggot is due to start his injections next week , ive just about got my head round that , but how often should you check his levels and that , i work full time ( 6am to 5pm) so there is no one at home all day , ive been reading all sorts of things that could happen , possibly not the best thing to do but thats just me lol , any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Always get a preshot number. Try to get a reading just before bed (assuming that's 3-4 hours after the shot)... Then on days off get lots of mid cycle numbers.

Thanks Janet , ive got a rough plan sorted so far, get up 4-45 am , do a reading , feed him at 5 , insulin at 5-15 go to work at 5-45 ,then same for the evening , just hope he will be ok during the day and nothing goes wrong
 
Does he have food available during the day? Sometimes, when they start to go too low they will instinctively start eating to help boost the BG and keep themselves safe. Not a perfect solution, but helps for the peace of mind when you have to be gone all day after giving a shot!

Only thing i can do is maybe leave xtra food out i suppose , my partner leaves for work at around 7 so maybe i could get her to put more down perhaps

The weekend and evening is when you will get your best info. You will adjust to find a dose that lowers her into a safe range with a little cushion to keep her safe when you can't be there.

yeh , well the vet said the dose would be 1.25 so maybe just do 1 perhaps ?
