So, Scooter was diagnosed and we started on Vetsulin. As his SS shows it didn't really work. We changed to 1u of Lantus and his numbers came down and got more level. I thought a small increase (1.25u) would bring him down more, but he went up instead. Has anyone else had the numbers go up with an increase? The only thing I can figure out is his body is fighting hard not to let his sugar drop and more insulin made it fight harder??? We are back down on 1u now and his numbers are better. I'm thinking I need to leave him on 1u at least another week and then go up??? or do I need to decrease more???
I also need a recommendation on a new meter. The Prodigy Auto Code I have works well and the strips are pretty inexpensive. The problem with it is, the test strip must be in the meter when you draw the blood in and it makes a BEEP when it has the blood. Scooter is very good about his shots and about having his ears stuck, but he hates that beep in his ear, he gets pretty squirmy and sometimes we loose the blood and I have to stick him again. Anybody know of a meter that either doesn't have to have the strip in it when you get the blood on the strip, or that doesn't beep when you get the blood?
Today Scooter had his best numbers ever! I've been a little worried though because he hasn't eaten as much ( he's slacked off on his eating the last couple days). I'm not sure if his numbers are better because he's not eating as much, or if he's not eating as much because his numbers are better??? He has been eating A LOT and had gotten a little under weight, I'm sure because his BG was so high. This week he has gained some weight and is probably back close to his normal weight ( he has never been overweight).
