So at 2+ she's already down almost 100 points - looks like today might be the day for a visit to the lagoon! I'm going to test her again in 1/2 hour to see if she's continuing to fall. Fed her 1 tsp of LC food after 2+ BG poke. I'm ready with MC and HC food in emergency drawer. Will update title often.

She's in the lagoon - just fed her 15% carb FF Turkey Feast for Gravy Lovers . Will test again in 1/2 hour. Would like to hold her here for a while! Don't go lower Luci!!

She's up to 95 now - loving all the treats! She's surfing - but how long will it last? Just fed her 1 piece freeze dried chicken - I would love to see her hold these greens for just a bit longer - can't take away those high carb treats she ate earlier - guess they're kicking in .... but once she's climbing how do you stop her from getting out of the lagoon?:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

Keep testing until you know HC has left her system.. she may dip back down.

So she's left the lagoon - should I continue to test every 1/2 hour or let her wait until 1 hour has passed? She just got another piece of freeze dried chicken - treat for poke. Was waiting for me by the 'test counter'...begging for food.

I would test again in half an hour and if her numbers are still going up, then I think it should be ok to check in an hour.
I've got my kitchen timer set :) I wish she could have stayed in the lagoon a little longer..barely made it two hours...it's a real balancing act with her....I want her to stay in the greens - but don't want her to go too low...how does anyone ever master that tightrope?

Luci has gone back into the lagoon! I'm so excited! This is her longest run around these numbers I've ever seen. Maybe she's a 2 unit girl after all? Hate to say this but that's the number the vet recommended on January 6 - should I have started then? Maybe not. I have to admit I've learned a lot since then, would have gone into a panic if I'd not had a few minor experiences prior to this - how to manage those falling numbers with a little MC or HC food. I had read about the Karo syrup and I was ready for the worst - but I think it's better to try to slow the drop - than to swing her back up into full blown hyperglycemia - surely that's what Karo Syrup would do?? I don't know and hope not to have to find out. So far she responds very well to the variety of foods - she's an eating machine - hasn't met a meal lately that she hasn't liked. After her 7+ poke she was rewarded with a piece of freeze dried chicken and a bit of salmon skin (from my lunch)...she seems to enjoy it all.;):cat::cat:

And now Luci is at 138 so I guess she's had enough of the lagoon for today? Is this something I can expect to happen again tonight? So should I prepare for a late night of testing, feeding, testing????

Now, that's ironic. My own vet recommended that Rex starts at 3 units. I didn't do that. I started with 1 unit as recommended in here. But it ended up being his magic dose because that's when he turned around. I wouldn't have wanted to start at 3 units without the knowledge I had beforehand!

Karo is like HC food, but it's pure sugar. It does wear off .. Rex got a bit of honey mixed with his HC food because HC alone wasn't enough to get him out of lime greens sometimes.

I wouldn't feed Luci again until PMPS if you can bear with her begging until then. Food after nadir can put brakes on the insulin action and after nadir, the numbers normally start to go up.

It is also possible Luci's body finally realized what just happened and panicked.

Interesting, huh? Everyone here said that 2 u was too high for Luci initially - and it may well have been since I had no idea what I was doing - except watching for her BG to go too low - and have the emergency kit ready - it had been a long convoluted ride with her to get to where he said we were to start in the first place - and I hope it hasn't made it more difficult for her to reach the Falls. We can only hope that she'll be gentle with me and DH - and go there again - but not so rapidly with smaller bounces - that girl is an Olympian - likes to go real high and then real low...scares me half to death!

Well there she goes - to the moon - 375 for her PMPS - this is a serious bounce - hope she doesn't start plummeting tonight...with her lower numbers this morning I'm worn out. Will we have another round like that this evening/overnight?

If you get a +2, it should tell you what to expect. If it's higher, you can sleep well.
Doubt that she'll stay this high - would it be useful to get a +1? I'm sure she'll come down - the question is how fast/hard will she do that? No way to know until I start testing...
