Smokey is working hard to earn his OTJ status. We had a couple days with micro-dose support but he’s mostly hanging in there on his own now. I’m excited for him! But fear this may be short lived. We move from Japan to Hawaii next month, so he will spend approx 18-20 hours in a travel kennel. Then when we get there I have 2 options. He can stay at the quarantine facility for 5 days, where they have vet techs and caretakers that are supposed to monitor them and I can visit. The area is 5 x 10 feet with cat walks and a covered area. Or, I had him registered to spend the quarantine at a 24 hour vet clinic boarding facility where he would have quicker access to care of something goes wrong, but it would be in a small stacked cage type boarding area. So my dilemma is do I put him where there’s less chance of him being too stressed out but maybe he won’t be monitored as close, or put him where he will be monitored more closely but not as comfortable which could actually make his glucose rise higher?
Just looking for opinions here. The situation is obviously unavoidable it’s just a matter of choosing the best option for his comfort and safety.
