? Time to rethink dosage?

Jester's +5 was a lovely fasting 110.

This after half pate and half shreds (2/3 can total) in the morning.

All major changes need to be accomplished by the end of this week, I think, because of the job starting on Monday.

I have no doubt it will take Jester several weeks, if not longer, to get used to not being fed all through the day. Most likely this will have to be cold turkey.

I would suggest practicing today and through the weekend with his "new" feeding habits.

I'm not as knowledgeable as these others vets, but are you trying to get a set dose daily? I'm sensing some worry with the new job and worrying about possible hypos while you are gone?

I don't think there is ever such thing as a set dose, as it can change based on PS number.

Sorry - I didn't see your response until now.
Considering the past two days and Jester's sudden BG drop, yes - I'm a bit concerned about dosages and hypos. I'll need to be gone for at least nine hours a day and, although the location is only about fifteen minutes away, my lunch break will only be thirty minutes long - not enough time to run home and check up on Jester at need.

As to practicing new feeding habits, that's easier said than done. It can be difficult enough making Jester wait to be fed for an hour until after his PMPS - he will beg sometimes through that entire hour - but to make him wait for his next meal from 8:00am to 5:00pm while I'm right there would likely drive me insane.

Case in point - Jester's PMPS isn't due until 8:30pm eastern time. He's been nagging me for the last twenty minutes because he's hungry now.

I'm taking Jester's PMPS shortly - 8:30 eastern time.

His AMPS was 246 and his +5 was 110.

Any chance someone can be available for consultation on his PM dosage in case he's still running low? (He's been pretty hungry most of the day so I'm wondering if he's still running a little low.)

Based on previous forum convos, if his BG is in the mid-100s, I *think* I'd only be getting 1u just in case.

Looks good today. If PMPS is in a similar range to AMPS you can give 2 u. Post your PMPS as soon as you get it and I'll weigh in.

Nice!!! Sorry I just checked in since I knew it was time for your preshot. He's looking good and that 2 unit dose is a good one!

I am getting a bit antsy about how things might go next week.
Considering Jester's +5, do you think it might be a good idea to reduce his dosage if this pattern keeps up?
If he sticks to this pattern he’ll be fine. However, that can be hard to predict with a high degree of certainty. Data from now until Sunday will be very useful in making a decision.

Jester's *really* hungry tonight. I'm starting to think he's finally had a breakthrough in his dosage.

And I'm very glad I didn't back off on the testing when the vet said to.

I know he'd rather I only do mid-cycles and I know several people who've had diabetic cats and managed them without regular testing. But I also remember when Jester's first vet had him on 2U for two weeks without a single test in all that time. The next visit Jester's BG was down to 50 and they were scrambling for sugar water.

Hmmmm...

Trying not to get overly enthused. But it looks like Jester's BG really is creeping down on 2u.

Even after a basically non-fasting +4, he was still holding at 229 - just a tad below his PMPS. Considering all the carby stuff he eats, that's not bad at all.

Cautiously looking forward to his AMPS.

And he's still in the low 200s - AMPS is 225.
Yay!
One helpful byproduct of the lower BG is that he's more willing to eat pate in the morning too. A whopping 1/3 of the can in one sitting!

To get myself ready for next week, I plunged him right into shreds. Trying to get as much food into him as I can first off.

If today is an indication, I'll have to give myself about an hour just for Jester's stuff every AM.

Thinking seriously that a curve might be in order before I start this job.

Jester's +4 was 188 and +6 was 134. Neither were fasting. I'd really like to get some fasting numbers since that's what I'm going to be dealing with realistically.

Any thoughts from the Prozinc crew?

A curve might be good now that he seems to be responding well at 2 u.
