Still bouncing, then hypo, what do,I do

The highs are a rebound in reaction to the low numbers you've had. We call it bouncing. Here's something I wrote a while ago to explain it:
  1. BG goes low OR lower than usual OR drops too quickly.
  2. Kitty's body panics and thinks there's danger (OMG! My BG is too low!).
  3. Complex physiologic processes take glycogen stored in the liver (I think of it as "bounce fuel"), convert it to glucose and dump it into the bloodstream to counteract the perceived dangerously low BG.
  4. These processes go into overdrive in kitties who are bounce prone and keep the BG propped up varying lengths of time (AKA bouncing).
  5. Bounce prone kitty repeats this until his body learns that healthy low numbers are safe. Some kitties are slow learners.
  6. Too high a dose of insulin can keep them bouncing over and over until the " bounce fuel" runs out and they crash - ie., have a hypo episode. That's why we worry so much about kitties that have had too high a starting dose prescribed by the vet and the owner isn't home testing.
So: insulin dose is too high --> BG drops too low --> kitty's body tries to protect itself by putting glucose into the bloodstream, getting it from a stored form in the liver --> BG shoots up too high.

I hpe you drop the dose to 1 u tonight so we can get him settled.

Thank you so much, makes more since now, yes I will drop to 1u

New plan for the next few cycles: drop back to 1 u.

He's dropped too low twice now on the 2 u dose. The higher numbers have been inflated from bouncing. I based the suggestion to increase to 2.25 u on those numbers. That they were bounce-inflated wasn't immediately apparent after 20 Feb but now seems to be the case. He's also more insulin sensitive from those lime green numbers.

If 1 u seems too low after a couple of days it can be slowly increased. You can see, I think, how tricky it is to get a good dose range when the dose has been too high resulting in very low numbers that make him insulin sensitive at the same time as they cause him to soar into high pre shot numbers. You'll get there ...
I didn’t see the message for new plan till just now, I’m ready for whatever you think and ready to try it, thank you so much

Those reds and the pink are likely from bouncing. Give 1 u again this AM. Try to get a urine ketone test done - just a pre caution when BGs are high.

It’s time to start a new thread. This one is getting long.

How do I delete this thread or just leave it alone

No need to delete this thread. Just start a new one. If you don't want to think of a fancy name for each new thread you start you can simply use something like "Bella's FD Journey Part 1" and then just change the number when you use the same title for a new thread. You can also start a separate thread if you need attention fast and you'd write a title that makes that clear.

I see your SS comment about him getting int dry food last night. That might be part of the reason for the red this AM. It could also be from rebound after yesterday's lows or from this dose being a bit too low. Don't worry - we won't leave him at a too low dose any longer than necessary. It's to try to get him settled from all the crazy ups and downs.
