Still seeing numbers all over the place!

I'm concerned as I've been at this now for 6 weeks and it feels like no progress! Looking at numbers that seemed to stablize then the past few days skyrocketing again! I'm beginning to get conflicting test results and don't know why, a couple of times when I saw a number I wasn't sure of I retested right away to see. What us the margin of error on test strips? Ive made sure my meter is set on the right setting as the test strips. I'm also wondering why the 4u of PZI seems to work sometime and other times its like he's not getting any insulin at all? His diet is only lowest carb Friskies pate, has been since he was diagnosed. Am I feeding him too much as I try to let him eat when hungry as that's still almost constantly. There has been some headway some days when he leaves food in the bowl at feedings. I'm mixing alot of water in the food to fill him up and help with flushing his kidneys as advised. I do try to hold off on food at least 2 hours before pre soy testing. His demeanor is pretty much unchanged since this started, his water bowl consumption has decreased noticeably. He does not seem to be in any distress but I know these high numbers still are not good! I'm due to refill the ProZink pretty soon probably in a few days! His abbcsss in his mouth has not flared up since the last go round of Clavamox almost a month now, so he's not on any other meds. Just wish I could figure out how to finally get stable tested numbers on him
 
Did you really give NO insulin the morning of the 12th? If true (as your SS indicates) are there any differences in food consumption or other things that would explain the low (for your cat compared to other PS') PM PS?
If not then the insulin dose may be too high. It could be that since the abscess cleared insulin needs have decreased

No that was just an entry oversight. He got his normal 4u dose!

Also he is still eating pretty normal. He's not as ravenous for food as he was when we started but he's still eating pretty well, the past few weeks he eats most of a 5.5 Oz can. I've cut back the in between shots amount of food to half a can and he usually finishes all of that!
 
You have a choice to either reduce the dose ( I would go for 2 units) for maybe 2 days or increase to 5 units and see what happens.
How are Bryan't ear's? My badger had erratic BG and they were caused by oozing (due to chronic infection) polyps in his left ear. Once there were surgically remove he got inconsistent BGs.
 
I’m sorry you are going through this, I am too, my cats is all over the place too and it was doing just fine and he is only eating low carb food and I add extra water
 
It would be helpful if you could add the following info to your signature....

Date diagnosed, how much he weighs, insulin type, food you are feeding, and any other health concerns.

I would increase to 4.5 or 5 based on the numbers. You had only 1 day of decent numbers... Shame they didn't stick around.

Whats going on with his mouth? Does he need teeth pulled? That could be the cause of some of the high bg.
 
Thanks you for info, all is in the signature but his weight but I will put it there, I don’t see anything wrong with his mouth, he had a tooth pulled last year and all of them cleaned but all has been fine with his mouth

Thanks you for info, all is in the signature but his weight but I will put it there, I don’t see anything wrong with his mouth, he had a tooth pulled last year and all of them cleaned but all has been fine with his mouth

Sorry for not being clearer. I was reading this thread put up by David McGuiness. @JanetNJ responded to his thread and asked for signature info to be put up. He hasn't done his but you have. I think her comment was for him but you responded as though it was for you. The dose numbers are similar for the two of you so I was confused at first about whether Janet was giving input to you or the original poster. That might have confused you too. That's why I posted to you suggesting you set up your own thread.

This online forum thing takes a while to get used to using. You're not the first person who's commented about your own situation within someone else's thread. It's safest to assume that advice you read on a thread is aimed at the person who started the thread (not foolproof though!). The best way to get advice for yourself is to put up a new thread of your own with your issue described in the thread title.

Please don't feel bad or that I'm scolding you. I found this a complicated place to be at first too. There might be useful info here:

There are many spots used: scruff, shoulders, along the sides, closer to the belly. You should try to shift the injection location a little even within a smallish area. Use whatever works best for you and kitty will tolerate.

Retested and went up to 158

His ears are fine! I don't see any infection or any oozing. Some scabing at times but I've figured out to prick the inside of his ear and squeeze out a tiny bit of blood enough to get a reading!
