I wonder... Do you guys think cats have falling dreams like we do? I mean, the ones where you are falling and wake up suddenly, while almost falling off the bed, before you hit the ground? Pig was sleeping on 'his' pillow last night in front of me, laying flat on his back for tummy rubs. He had fallen fast asleep when all of a sudden he startled awake and almost knocked me and him both into the floor....:confused:

He seemed to have a very good night last night. We learned a valuable lesson. The raw works well with his mega-colon, but needs to be given in small (1-1.5oz) amounts at a time. Poor bubs looked like a blimp! I only gave him about 2 oz, but for some reason it took him a while to move it through. Yes, I time and track how long it takes him to go to the bathroom.. I know... weird, right?

He took a massive dip very fast last night from a pmps of 370 to a +3 of 290! I know this does not sound all too crazy, but for Pig it was surprising!

So, since when can you not buy a bottle of Humulin R without a script? No worries, I just grabbed the Novo R at about $25, so it worked out fine... I was just surprised!

One more question.. I am getting a little anxious about the switch to lev... Considering how Pig reacts so dramatically to Lantus raises (initially) and the fact that any Emergency Vet is 2hrs away.... Would it be smarter to start at an even lower percentage of Levemir? Maybe a 50% dose reduction?

I just worry he will react dramatically and I will see a very good dip and possibly get ourselves in trouble... Then again, I hate to prolong getting to bluer skies and greener pastures, so to speak... Lol.

What do you guys think? 15u Levemir or 21u to start?

I wouldn't really dare comment on the high-dose territory dose, BUT I do recall reading that Lev could be more potent than Lantus and that cats might need lower doses. I know @Kris & Teasel has used both insulins, maybe something to say on the topic?
All I can say from my own experience is that I get similar results with Lev to what I had with Lantus at a dose range that's on average 25-30% lower.

I haven't visited before but have peaked at Pig's condos. My Doodles was IAA but not Acro so some experience with higher doses. We also switched to Levemir. You can see his reaction on the 2016 ( April 17, 2016 )tab in his SS. The general rule is starting at 70% of the Lantus dose. If Pig was seeing lower numbers it may or may not be suggested you start even lower. Just looking at Pig's SS I think you would be safe with the 70% which would be 19 or 19.5u as a starting dose. Of course unless something different happens between now and then. I'm sure others will chime in.

Also with Raw food....typically there will be less stool because they are absorbing more clean nutrients instead of fillers.

Okay... I had planned to start at the 70% (I think my math put it at 21u? I'm awful at numbers), but I worry... There is a slight suspicion that Pig is IAA as well (tests never got sent) and if he is, that break scares me...

However, we have never seen a number below 248 before, either... So, may be it would be good!! Thank you!

I would start at 70% as long as you can keep a close eye the first few cycles. Bronx's switch went smooth on 1/1/17 and we only dropped from 7.5u of Lantus to 7u of Lev

Phoebes been on Lev about a week. We went from 16 to 7.5. It's been smooth sailing with one hypo incident when she had both in her system. But the surfing numbers are great. Much more stable numbers. Flat as a pancake, except when we forget to pick up food before shot. She's so much more herself now. I love lev. Head bumps

Just so you know she was a 24unit kitty not too long ago.

When you start give notification the day before so we can have eyes on Pig to help. Also don’t use R for a few cycles so we can see what’s happening with the switch.

Yes.. I watched a bit of Phoebes numbers and was there for her hypo incident and that is actually what got me thinking it might be better to start at a lower than 70% dose... I worry a lot! However, I am very ready to make the switch as I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be the thing that helps a lot! Thank you!!

Absolutely! Actually, I timed it out and measured what Lantus I have left and it looks like the switch will need to be made on Thursday night (2-15). This is the next time I will have a few days off and can monitor the way I would like. This will give me, at the least, 4 cycles of being here to monitor. Here is to a smooth ride!
