Well, I noticed something today. Whenever there is poop outside of the box, the lower the numbers. Seems his body doesn't like them this low, but starting to see them pop up here and there!
Looks like you have caught blue and/or yellow every 3rd day (5 or 6 cycles) these past six days. Well done!Seems his body doesn't like them this low, but starting to see them pop up here and there!

Oh I did. That 3am vomit was actually Sun morning. Woke me up and I got the test. My notes are not always clear. How long can this bounce last? I looked around at others sheets, and I haven't seen anyones this bad.I agree with Wendy, probably was a lower overnight number that you missed, especially if he vomited around 3:00, that would have been a good time to grab a test, vomiting/not enough food can also make their numbers go down. He’s an Olympic level bouncer, that Rufus!
That's a heck of a bounce! I'd be curious what the number would be off of insulin. There was no test after PMPS last night on the spreadsheet. So we don't know if this morning's 265 was the lowest point on the cycle, or on the wasy up from something else. I rather suspect the latter, and he's now bouncing in response to whatever the lowest point really was. Alternatively, some cats have later onses and nadirs. Neko often nadired around +12.
Ok. This am does was the 6th cycle (after the fur shot). So theoretically he should be doing what after this? Staying high or going low but not so much movement? You don't need to take him to the vet for a 24 hour curve. Offer to do it yourself and send them the numbers. His numbers will just likely be inflated due to stress at the vet anyway.
Bounces can last up to six cyles. Not worth doing a curve while he's bouncing. Rufus is getting some good air time now. Must be watching the Olympic ski jumping.![]()

For a kitty that is teetering on the verge of ketones forming withholding insulin would not be wise.I'd be curious what the number would be off of insulin.
I know he needs insulin, just seems better numbers near end of cycle, so I thought it was better as it was wearing off. Also better numbers after a partial shot. I do think he's getting too much. I have an appt with a specialsist tomorrow so I going to keep things the same until we see what she says. Just crossing my fingers this lady knows what she's doing.Looks like Rufus was trying to break that bounce a bit last night.
I agree wit Sandy...I would not try skipping insulin. Rufus clearly needs it, but his body needs time to adjust. It takes time - sometimes more for some kitties than others.

Rufus has been kind of breathing heavier, like he's congested a bit. Wonder if that has something to do with the numbers.

The lady is the head of medicine for an 8 unit vet clinic, and emergency services. They are highly regarded clinics, so I'm crossign fingers. Rufus' pancreatitus has seemed better, but he was sneezing for a couple days and that went away and now the congestion. It didn't seem as pronounced today, but last night it was like he was lightly snoring while awake. But he does have a few issues that could be contributing to all of this.I hope the specialist is helpful. I haven't had the best of luck finding any vet that knows as much about diabetes at the collective here. Not saying you won't find someone that is amazingly well versed in FD, just try not to have your expectations too high. If the vet knows you are home testing and capable of getting a 24 hour curve and still insists you leave Rufus with them to do it, that would be a good tip off in the wrong direction.
If Rufus has infection, pain and other issues going on, certainly that can affect his numbers. If you look at Asia's SS, 1/17 through 1/30 she was having some issues, we found out she has confirmed pancreastitis and a kidney infection during this time and started antibiotics. You can clearly see what this did to her numbers.
Keep us posted on the vet visit.![]()
The food he threw up was a differnet food then he was used to, and it was seafood. Not sure if that had something to do with it. He used to throw up every other day, but now very rarely. He does have food allergies/intolerance, but he only will eat Fancy Feast right now. Hoping once he feels better he'll be eating what I want him to eat.You should save your money and do the curve at home. They really do a 24 hour curve---techs are there all night?
Why is he throwing up? Have you tested his kidneys? Fancy Feast classic pate is really high in phosphorus which is really hard on his kidneys.
Oh, now I see his profile says you are looking for novel proteins, so maybe he has food issues.
Good luck.
Check his phosphorus levels too. Did you get the IDEXX SDMA test which is more accurate than creatinine?Oh and on last check, creatine was 1.9. I think overall kidney numbers were slighly elevated.
Oh I have been worried about his kidneys. Um, I'm not sure about the sdma part of it. I'll have to look. When Rufus first started having issues (before he had the diabetes) in August, he wasn't eating right. First less dry, then less wet. The only numbers that were maybe a clue was the creatine at 1.7 at that time. Vet said sometimes when cats start to feel kidneys not functioning as well, they eat less. His bun was 48 I think. Rufus has always been a huge water drinker so I guess that's good, but hopefully its not making his creatine number look better then it is. Xray showed his kidneys were a little smaller.Check his phosphorus levels too. Did you get the IDEXX SDMA test which is more accurate than creatinine?
Yum has kidney disease. Her creatinine came down from 2.2 or something to a misleading 1.7 on her last test---but only because she is drinking so much water.
Her SDMA was still elevated.
Rufus is young. Probably his kidneys are fine. Don't let me freak you out. I am just obsessed now with kidney numbers and kidney induced vomiting, because of Yum's problems.
Yes, he had labs run early September, no indications of FD, and then again mid November when we discovered he was diabetic. He was on 2 different steriods for his ears, and on pred for his licking and inappetence. I'm thinking the ear infection (it was really really severe) and maybe start of pancreatits was why he wasn't eating so well, and then turned into diabetes. He had all the prerequisits unfortunetly. As the others have said, I would really push (hard) to do that curve at home. They are probably not used to people who home test and that's why they are requesting it in-office. But as you know, the numbers will probably be skewed if he is there, especially for 24 hours. Fingers crossed they will work with you.
Things like allergies and congestion and infection certainly can inflate BGs. Did you have labs run back in August when he started going off his food? I'm just wondering if maybe that was the start of his FD. Not all FD cats eat like crazy...my Trix was eating much less when she was diagnosed.
I really don't think Rufus needs less insulin at this point - if anything, I might be inclined to start considering an increase. He's a classic bouncer who is just getting used to being on the juice. Just the fact that he is eating much better now shows that the insulin is helping him. But, let's see if others have a different opinion.
