Phoebes best friend Chandler has hyperthyroid. He is skin and bones. Currently eats FF, pates. cant have fish, any personal exsperience with certain high calorie cat foods? This boy needs to eat.
Thank you. Might have to check the clean protein.not a popular option but, IMO a high protein/fat & low carb dry food will put weight back on quickly with the least food intake amount needed IF cats likes kibbles.
Young again zero or 50/22 or zero mature, wyson espigen 90 and dr. elsey clean protein are low carbs & high calories, my cat gained almost 4lbs back in 3 or so mths eating YA & evo dry plus his wet food..
Yes he is on meds for hyper. No diabetes. Is Chandler getting meds (methimazole?) for the hyperthyroidism? Is Chandler diabetic or is he just hyper-T?

How often are they running blood tests to check thyroid levels/adjust t-meds dose?
Is he eating all day but having all his food pretty much come out the other end not long after it was eaten?

Thank you.Hi pheobes. I know it's not ideal to feed dry food but my boy needed to gain weight so we put him on Science diet MD for a while. He gained weight quickly. He went from 3.8kg to 4.5kg in 2 months.
He's on the pill, which he has perfected spitting out sometimes. Will tell her about the treatment and the facebook group. Does any vet or just specialist perform it?The methimazole pills can cause tummy upset. Is he on the pills or the transdermal? Has your friend heard of or considered the i131 treatment?
I belong to the facebook group Hyperthyroid Cats which I find to be supportive and helpful. Ginger had the i131, so she is cured of hyperthyroid.
I agree with Wendy that often the kitten foods have more calories. I have not tried making raw yet, but one of my cats loves the Instinct Rawboost treats.
Only specialized place do the iodine 131 treatment. It involves radioactive and is regulated by the government. RadioCat has a many places in the USA where it can be done. There are also a few other specialized places that do it. Last time I had it done at RadioCat,which was 10 years ago or so, the price wa $1100Does any vet or just specialist perform it?
