Bryant’s numbers? HELP!

So I’ve been treating him now for 2 weeks at my vets advice with upped dosage to 4u of PZI, thought I was starting to see his progress downward buyer in the past few days he’s spiked up! Then just now 2pm mst I get a 222 number! I tested 2x to make sure it wasn’t a bad reading. He’s due for his shot but not sure what to do. DO I GIVE HIM A SHOT ANYWAY?

I was going to start a curve today at my vets request. It’s so frustrating to not see much progress. His appetite has started to wane recently too. He’s not wolfing down all his food in one sitting but he still seems to be eating ok. I noticed vomit on the rug when I got up this AM. ADVICE PLEASE!

This is a tough call because you have no data to speak of showing how low he goes on the current dose. Those numbers are essential and you have to get them on days off if you're away at work all day. Some evening data around +2 to +4 can help but there's none of that either. I'm not chastising just stating a fact. The only way we can advise with any confidence is by having data to look at.

Did you do a retest after that 222? It's wise to do that whenever you get a number that's in a very different range. If you're using a human meter we'd say give insulin if the pre shot test is above 200. Do you have lots of test strips, high carb food and time to monitor tonight? If so, give the full dose. Test him at +1 and +2 to see where he's headed. If those numbers are 50+ points lower, give a small (2 tsp) snack of his regular food and test again at +3. Post here for help.

I just tested him again after he ate some! His number was 295! This is an AlphaTrack2 number!

No problem. We usually say no insulin under about 250 on the AT pet meter. The first 22 might be on the low side. You could try a half dose of 2 u and get those +1 and +2 tests. He should be OK with that.

BTW - you're missing dose data on your SS for the last several evenings. Also, do you have insulin syringes with half unit marks? Those would help a lot if you want to do the recommended 0.25 u (eyeballed) or, at most, 0.5 u dose changes.

I just updated the dosing info on the sheet! I do have 1/2 unit syringes. I’m doing a curve today every 2 hours!
