Angel OTJ Trial?

What do you guys think of us doing a trial of no insulin? Tonight we are going to be reducing to .25 because of her hypo last night. We have been studying her SS so much and to me, it seems like most of the time she sees yellow numbers is because the previous day she got down to 50-60’s. I know those are safe numbers but her body seems to not like them and she bounces. If we were to take her off insulin we would be more strict with carb % in her food. We would try to stick to 10 or under. Because she’s on insulin we know how important it is she eat well and most of the time she will only eat medium carb. Any advice would be great. We are headed to the vet today for a check up and to discuss her arthritis.

She’s looking really good but from what I’ve seem with others best to follow the protocol and reduce to .25. Letting her earn the reductions will give you a stronger remission.

IMHO she isn't ready for a OTJ trial yet. Even though she has earned the reductions, when you look at her SS you want to see a sea of green with an occasional blue number. That isn't the case right now. I would try to keep her in all green numbers and get rid of the yellows.

I see you give a wide span of carb % and wondering if you stuck to one under 10% if you could get her overall cycle down. Has she had a history of diving? And are you able to monitor earlier in the AM cycle? It seems like when she starts off in a green number, you carb her up . If you can monitor during the day, when she starts off in a green number maybe some lower carb food but then get a +1 and a +2 test to see if you need to steer some. Just a thought.

Yeah but like I said, it seems like she’s only getting to yellow after being in 50-60s. I don’t know how to stop her from getting that low while still giving her insulin. I know she’s technically not ready. We are going to reevaluate her food and see what we can do. We both agree we need to get her eating lower carb. And I think we give higher carb when she’s initially low for PS because we get nervous she’s so low and will drop more.

Thanks so much! She eats 3 3oz cans a day at least. Spread out every 6 hours.

She didn’t have hypo symptoms but she was down to 44.

Some kitties not on insulin will test in the 40's. We just don't want cats on insulin down there because it gives no margin for error. Having said that, some kitties show hypo symptoms at higher numbers than others.
