Hi

I was going to do a curve on Rufus today, then found out Rufus had quite a few tempations treats yesterday (ugh). Do you think his BG could be elevated today from them yesterday? Should I postpone or am I over thinking this.

thanks!

Hi. I’m assuming he got the Temptations because that was all he would eat? I don’t see any info on your sheet. Depending on when he got the last ones it could influence but it would be good info to do a curve. Just no Temptations today. Have you ever tried Gerbers 2nds all meat baby food as a treat. It’s good because it’s all meat without onion or garlic. Most cats love it and it’s low carb. We have to find sonething low carb for a treat that he likes.

No, he was actually eating good yesterday. He was given the treats by my sister when I wasn't home last night. Noticed the bag was considerably less today and found out she gave them to him and Ozzie by other cat. Ugh.

So todays numbers aren't good. He has been sleeping pretty much all day. Not sure if that's the gabapentin, or not feeling well. He was doing really well on sat, sun, mon, tues, and most yesterday. I should have done the curve on one of those days to see if the numbers would have been better.

How long has he been on gapapentin? It just made Neko sleepy. I have heard others say they get over than in a couple weeks, but Neko didn't so I stopped it.

Time to toss the Temptations in the garbage. Or at least hide them where your sister can't find them. They can be used in a pinch to bring up low blood sugar. Not the greatest ingredients for a kitty with an iffy tummy. The high carb junk can take a day to get out of their system. I think you can stop the curve for today and maybe try another day. I would still continue to get those before shot tests though. It's not safe to shoot without testing.

He had 1 dose last night, and 1 this morning. I put the powder in his wet food, but he didn't eat it all, so I gave a half dose of the liquid. He could have gotten a bigger dose then the 50mg. Yeah, temptations are still here, but now hidden. That will never happen again.

Do you think I should up the dose of insulin or stick with it and try a curve again on say Sunday?

There is too little information at this dose to say what you should do next. Can you get preshot tests between now and Sunday as well as that curve then?

Well, got back from vet. alpha trak2 showed 423, their equipment/testing showed 485. Now she's wondering if maybe he has cushings disease because of the concurrent skin issues.

With a big long kitty, I would test for acromegaly. We usually don't suggest testing for that until you get to 6 units, but you are almost there. It's a condition one in four diabetic cats has. A specialist may be able to better guide you on further tests. What type of skin issues does Rufus have?

He is constantly licking / scratching. Bald spots on back legs, now starting on front legs. Bald spot on neck. Tummy getting thin spots. He has had this for 3 or 4 years. Got better last summer when we switched foods to rabbit, but then he had severe ear infections. He was put on pred and 2 different ear meds. No licking at all when he was on pred. This is the reason I want him to be eating solely rabbit again, but cant get him to.
