I don't know at what point meters read "LO" instead of giving a number but I would give her some syrup, caro, etc and test again in a few minutes. I'll tag some others to help you out as I have to go out the door in a few minutes.

I would feed her some Karo or honey and yes, test again in 15. Be careful of the quantity of food you feed her as you don’t want her to be full. I use an oral syringe to give honey or Karo if it’s not something she’s keen to eat on her own. Test in 15 and report back.

How do you give the syrup. She's not interested in it. I touched some to the front of her mouth, so she's locked that off, but she's not wanting to lick it off a plate or anything.

Never mind. Read above.

Retesting.

It can come down again tho. Test every 20 minutes and if under 50 give Karo. If over try regular food. Feed small amounts to keep hungry.

Please update your SS when you can so we can follow along there. You should give her some food now if she hungry, just be careful not to give her too much and make her full, you want her to be able to eat more should her numbers drop again.

Eventually you'll want to know that she is staying above 50 on her own and not high carb induced. She will be showing effects of the high carb for up to two hours after. So plan lots of testing and especially 2hrs after last high carb food.

No problem. You won’t need to test for at least that long and if over 60 not for half hour. I meant I wouldn’t leave for the day until in good numbers for two hours. You will be able to go an hour between tests at that point.

Glad she is staying up so far, once the sugar wears off, numbers can come back down, but since I’m assuming you skipped the shot this morning and she’s well in to the end of the last cycle, hopefully she will stay up. The rule is 2 hours with no HC/sugar influence is when you can call it safe. Test every 30-60 until then as long as she is over 50. That must have given you quite a scare! Asia has given me a couple of unpleasant wake ups to lime green. You’re doing a great job handling things. :bighug:

It was a shock, and my heart was racing a bit, but thanks to this site and you all, I was well prepared. Thank you a million times.

So, what do I do about the shot? I haven't given it.

It depends if her numbers stay up without sugar and if you can get back on schedule if you delay. You can inch back 15 minutes per shot or 30 minutes each day if you decide to shoot, but I would only do that if she holds her numbers up for a couple hours without high carb/Karo and of course, she had earned a reduction for the next time you do shoot, it would be .5

:eek::eek:

Wow, what a shock to read the condo!

How far off are you, schedule-wise? OK, Stacy just posted above.

If you decide not to shoot, that's fine. Just grab a couple tests during the cycle after making sure she stays up. Then shoot 0.5u tonight. Congrats on the reducie!

Out of curiosity, did you retest that LO? I got a couple of those when the blood drop was too small. The first time I overacted and gave gravy (thanks mom!). Then I learned to retest.

Exciting morning - well done.

Everyone should primt and keep handy the information on how to handle low numbers found here

Anytime you are faced with a number that seems to be way out of pattern, immediately take another reading to verify. That way you eliminate the possibility that it was a bum reading.

No. I thought about it, but then figured I shouldn't mess around. If it had been in the 30s or 40s maybe I would have, but I was floored to see the Lo and just figured I'd better get moving.

I know to retest when the number seems out of place, and I’ve still reacted the same way. You see that low number, adrenaline takes over, and it’s hard to think of retest because you are just immediately in action mode and getting that number up. :nailbiting:

She's dandy, other than seeming extra hungry. She just came and asked for more food. I'm only giving the LC, now. We live next to a small field and today we have thousands of starlings landing and flying together all around us. She's been outside enjoying the show. Have you ever watched videos of murmurations? That's what we have going on this morning. It's incredible.

Last test without food@? BTW, congrats on the reduction. Tell Freckles no need to be so dramatic about it.
