Ty still on the moistened poached chicken only with all the assorted potions, powders, pumpkin & meds.
It would seem that no carbs suits his numbers but this is not a balanced diet at the moment.
Also of note is that his UREA & CREA numbers have considerably worsened . This might be attributed to the change from prescription renal very low phos to the wet iams grain free which whilst still low phos compared to other cat foods out there is still quite a lot higher that the renal prescription. ( Yes. We know the renal dry was no good for his overall well being) . We do seem to remember that we felt that when Ty was on the dry renal and before that the dry dental , always with a mix of wet canned food in play , that if he got rather more wet than dry then his stools would be looser. On the dry would be better formed as logs.
Note: Tyler from a kitten has had a mix of wet and dry food . He has always been able to roam as he pleased , to be a cat, proviso only that he was kept inside from dusk 'til dawn. He had such great muscle tone for his age. Vets thought him 'top shelf' . I think that is why the steep slide with the neuropathy has come as such a shock. Up until last Aug/July he was still taking constitutionals over the paddocks. I would time any vet visit for after his morning walks. To see him now struggle to get down to the bottom of our garden is incredibly saddening He is a cat. Despite his very advanced years , he should still be enjoying being a cat. Looking out over the style. Moving along the cat tracks kept by all the pusscats in the surrounding area. Doing his thing at his allotted cat time in the pecking order. Visiting the fave spots to mark territory. Sharpening claws on best punga logs. Dusty stalking him in the undergrowth. Drinking from the duck pond. Lazing on the deck curled up in quality sleep.
He absolutely must have some exercise as that is all part of metabolism & health so shall continue helping him to be outside and walk. Smell cat things. Remember cat stuff .
We decided we also need to talk to the vets about his diet and the balance with that. Seeing the difference in a couple of those kidney numbers since he came off the renal is a concern not to be ignored. Also need to consider his mouth. Vet seemed happy enough with the inside of his mouth but we really need to remain pro-active about the health of the few teeth he has left. Soft food will not help with that.
