Anyone here using 6mm length needles?

I am currently using 8mm needles, and Walmarts near me don't seem to stock the 8mm needles any more, only 6mm. Is using the shorter needle going to matter? If it matters, because of what WalMart stocks, I've already switched to 31 gauge, which is fine.

don't see why not, especially if have short hair cat, probably less change of giving a muscle injection with shorter needle IMO but, if a cat is not good at sitting still at injection, it may cause insulin pooling under their skin if they move while insulin is being injected perhaps?? with my long haired cat, who's fur has gone back to being super thick, the 6mm would be too short since i can no longer keep his staticky fur out of my way these days.

I used the 6mm with out any problem, I actually liked them better because I feel there's less chance of going to the other side and having a fur soot

It makes no difference. As long as the needle can get under the skin, that is the key. I stick with 8 because that is what I was initially given. Here's one option a6 6mm from the Total Diabetes Supply website. The same company also has an 8mm syringe with 1/2 unit markings if that is an issue for you.

Walmart can get them for you if you ask them to order them. I've had to do that before.

I switched to short needles a long time ago. Agree with Veronica. There is very little chance of poking thru. Now I'm using 5/16" needles, 31 gauge on Leo for over a year. I get them at Walgreens. 100 syringes for $18.

Note that 5/16 inch is 8 mm

Yes I agree on syringes. I just bought a new box today at Walgreens - same price $17.99 for 100 count. Maybe they bring you in for cheap syringes, and figure you will buy other stuff as well.

That's still more expensive than WalMart. Anyway, I went to a different WalMart and got the 8mm needles.

Yes, maybe a few dollars more. But I did drive thru, since I didn't need anything else. So it is convenient, and closer.
