Looks like we go up and down, up and down...will continue to get as many BG's as possible to see if we can establish a pattern. I see the value of getting more during the night - hope my back (pain) will allow me to get up soon!

At 10:15 I WAS ABLE TO GET BG ALONE! :) :) This is the FIRST time I've been able to hang on to Luci, get her ear warmed up, poke, get monitor up there, cloth to stop bleeding and apply a bit of ointment - TA DAA! Mighty excited about this development.

I'd like to work up to being able to do it earlier in the morning so we don't have to wait until 8 PM to do the next one PMPS! So we'll see how she handles a few more solo pokes today - just getting her to cooperate is a BIG step for us. DH isn't even here right now - she just sat there as I was holding her gently - didn't try to run or resist in any way - until just about the end..and then I started telling her a snack was coming...she was definitely ready to go by then..but that's ok...all over!

Wonderful!!!!! Congrats!!! Feels good, doesn't it Sue!? So happy for you. :bighug::p:bighug:

Between that victory and my pain level improving - it's a GREAT day! I just told my DH I'd like to do some cleaning! I haven't been able to do anything in weeks - and the doctor has already warned me not to overdo it...it's taking a great deal of restraint for me NOT to grab the cleaning stuff and go to town in here! It's a beautiful day and I'm feeling like cleaning house! Good and bad...bad if I hurt my back again...but good that I'm actually interested in doing something REAL! Not just 'take a note'...I'll get to it when I can... :)

Hope you have a wonderful day too!

What a great day for you! Just take it easy! It will get easier to get blood. When Mango was first diag., a lady told me it gets easier and that her cat ran to her when it was time to either get shot or bg. I thought she really was a nut.:( Now I know what she meant. Mango loves treats and now when he hears the beep on the monitor when I put the test strip in, he comes running!;) Now I know she is not nuts! I put Mango on the dryer, he lays down and I take his blood, give treats and then gets his meal on the floor. Then he knows that we get back on the dryer for a shot. It sounds crazy, but this is our routine. Pick a place to always check bg and give shots. It will be a positive place because it will always be treat time.It will become routine. Always give treats.

I had such hard time with my first solo. I almost had a melt down so I went to the vet up the street and they were nice enough to test for me a couple times. I FINALLY did it and now it is a piece of cake! {If you like cake ;)}

I agree! We use the same spot on the kitchen island - where the light is really good - and the same towel, same everything - always a treat or snack to follow. I tried having it on the counter with her - but it seemed to cause too much wiggling - she really wanted to get at the treat - so now I save it for as soon as we're done - her eating zone is just a few steps away - so she usually is right behind me... :)

If someone had told us when she was first diagnosed that she'd be so cooperative we would never have believed them! Not in a million years! She's always been aloof - not a lap cat - not one to be held - and you are all right - the blood comes on the least little prick of that outer edge of the ear...like it 'learned' what it was supposed to do...

So we've all come a long way in this house - thankfully! I didn't have a lot of confidence that we were going to be able to do this for her - if first we'd have to chase her down, then wrangle her into a steady position ...you know ... all that tempermental cat behavior...No I'm Not Coming down from my spot 10 feet up in the ceiling - you can go take a hike! That's what I envisioned...and she hasn't done that a single time - she must know deep down in her little heart that we're just trying to help her feel better. :)
