Rupert has been in the 200's all day. went to check his bedtime sugar it was 35, in disbelief retook it in his other ear 36, fed him, gave him honey got it to 63. how often do you check it and what is a good number? Everything so far is on his SS. it's 1am here in Duluth, MN im sure i wont get a response. thought I would try. Gonna google til i hear back....

You want to test about 20 minutes after you feed.....then, IF he's above 50, test again in 30 minutes....then IF he's still climbing, test an hour later

You want to test for 2 hours from the time you have to "intervene" with anything high carb or containing sugar.

If he drops below 50 again, that 2 hour clock starts over

Do you have any low or med. carb food? The kind with gravy is best. Keep feeding and testing every 20 minutes until his bood glucose stays up without food. How long has it been since his shot?+

He's also definitely earned a reduction in dose, so no matter how high he's at in the morning, you'd only shoot 3.25U

I'd start trying to make a habit out of getting a +2 on every cycle if you can ....that +2 can help to give you an "early warning" that he might be going a lot lower later in the cycle.

It's also a good idea to keep some high carb food in the house. While honey is fine (and brings them up quickly) it also wears off fast.

Most of us keep a few cans of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers in our "hypo kit".... you pop the top, put it back down and "squeeze" the gravy into another bowl. Feed a couple of teaspoons of the "gravy" (that's where most of the carbs are anyway) ....it also doesn't risk filling them up too much.

You want to keep him a little hungry so if you NEED him to eat later, he will

Just remember that the BG can turn back down. That's why you want to to keep testing.. I wouldn't give him any insulin tomorrow morning. Keeping fingers and paws crossed.

Sorry, but I'm going to bed in 2 minutes. You have good advice above.

You might bet tired of testing, but this is an emergency. Keep his BG up. That "35" is too low.

As you may have spare time between testing, you may want to read the FAQ about hypos. If you can't get to the emergency clinic and he won't ingest food or sugar, then be ready for a small sugar enema as well. It can be dosed via a non-needle syringe - like a medication syringe (that never had a needle). Keep reminding yourself this is an emergency until your kitteh meets the rules that Chris set out.

I'm signing off now.

@Rupert_09 I'm sorry but I'm going to have to take off....I actually have to be up and out early tomorrow and it's almost 2am

Keep testing at least until +7....as long as he stays above 50, he's safe, but if he drops below 50 again, you'll need to continue testing until he's been able to stay in safe numbers without you having to feed him anything

I've put out a couple of feelers in hopes to find someone else to watch out for you, but I don't know if they will be on too much longer either.

Looks like he's coming up

You can remove the 911 now ("edit" your subject line and choose "no prefix").....if you need it again, put it back

it's important to keep us updated as you get new tests. We don't like leaving anybody until we know they're safe.

Don't forget....reduced dose tomorrow!!

Glad to see that you got thru the hypo. They are scary, as they should be. I hope Rupert gets some extra lovin today.

Monitor BG a little closer than usual today and tomorrow. Sometimes the kittehs are bouncy after hypos.

Also I'm sending some decent weather to you to warm things up. It was in the 70's here this week (Austin TX).
