so I realized this morning after I gave my cat his shot of insulin that I left the insulin out since his last shot.. I’m assuming I’ll have to get a new bottle of insulin right?

Will my kitty be okay?? A bit worried...

Chances are good that the insulin is fine. At least it wasn't out in the middle of a summer heat wave ... ;)

Are you home testing BG? If yes then if the insulin viability has been compromised it should show up in your BG results.

If you're not home testing BG then monitor his daily water consumption and check his pee for glucose and ketones.

I've done this more than once. Our thermostat is programmed for 68 at night and Cynthia has some serious insomnia so she'll usually catch my blunder.

If all other factors remain consistent you should see how his numbers are affected.

I don’t do home testing.. so I’m not sure what his numbers are.. I think I’m gonna have to bit he bullet and buy a new bottle of insulin :( sucks cause I’m only 3 weeks into this bottle.. grr
I spoke with the vet.. they are not worried about my cat.. just that I need a new bottle.. :(

I'm in Ontario (Alberta boy at heart) and the link below is for a free-in-Canada human meter. There are better choices but this one is free and only involves a quick trip to the local pharmacy. You'll feel a lot better knowing what his numbers are. I believe @Juliet is one of the very few I've heard of that use this meter, maybe she'll share her thoughts (she is wise in the world of sugar cats). In the link I mention the "incredibly small amount of blood needed". That molecule of blood practically leaps from the ear onto the strip. For some reason Ontario pharmacies like to push the older Bayer meters. Mine went to the landfill! Good luck.

You’re in Canada and is been really cold. I think you’re quite safe. Personally I’d continue using it and if his numbers rise then get a new vial. I hear you. I dropped and smashed my vial at the weekend. At least it’s cheaper here.

Honestly - I’m not a fan of accucheck. I’m on my third free one DVD’s they keep dying on me. I was given a freestyle lite that I’m going to use once I’ve run out of the accucheck strips. If you google freestyle lite and go to their page, the meter is also free. Most are free with the purchase of 100 strips. Please please do hometest. It’s not safe to shoot blind.

Per my earlier post above, if you're not home testing BG then monitor his daily water consumption and check his pee for glucose and ketones (use human urine reagent strips such as Keto-diastix which have panels for both ketones AND glucose!). They're crude measures but better than nothing - and it's especially important to make sure that your kitty is ketone-free. More info and tips:
