Squallie has been doing really well, he's happy and active, eating well, purring, grooming, all the stuff a normal cat should be doing. But I'm having a real problem with his bg numbers. Tonight his PMPS is only 55/60 (L and R ears, respectively). I am afraid to give him 2.25 units if he's only at 60. This seems to be becoming a regular event. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing these low numbers, but I worry that he'll have a hypo episode (but then I look at today's numbers and he actually rose above his AMPS by +5). I don't know what to do. I'm making myself - and probably poor Squallie - crazy! Arrrgghhhh!!!:arghh:

Hi Lucy,

I think the most immediate question is: is he coming up from a lower number, or headed down? Can your schedule accommodate stalling and retesting in 30? Or have you already done that? If so, can you stall another 30? I presume you haven't fed yet?

He's been on this dose almost a month and came close recently to earning a reduction based on a week in normal numbers. I can't help but think he's looking for a reducie.

I already stalled for 30 minutes, just tested and got 54/53, so he's still dropping. I'm going to stall another 30 and test again. It's driving my other cats crazy because they want their dinner, lol. Mean Girl Candy just viciously attacked my hand and hissed at me when I gave Squall his treat for the ear pokes - that will bethe next topic I need advice on!

Oh dear! Did you give Candy a treat, too, or did you not want to reward bad behavior?
I had already given her one in the hope of fending off the bad behavior; not the first time she's done this, but the first time after getting a treat. She will also attack Squallie if she doesn't get a treat and he does. She really is a little B-tch.

Okay, just tested again, he's finally rising, with a 68. Should I go ahead and shoot, and if so, should I give the usual dose or give a 0.25 reduction?

Keep in mind that, even if you reduce, the depot will still make it seem like you shot the full dose. You can certainly try the reduction, if you want to, even though he hasn't officially earned it. It might bring his PS number up a bit eventually so you don't have this situation again. You have to do what you are most comfortable with, Lucy, even if it means doing a BCS tonight.

I ended up giving him 2.0 tonight, since he's been running higher at night lately, anyway. I'll see what his numbers look like in the AM and go from there, regarding whether or not to continue with a reduced dose.

Thanks a bunch, Tricia, I appreciate your help! :bighug::cat:
