hi everyone:
I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on how my marmalade would do on this insulin vs his current of vetsulin? See SS

I suspect that Marmalde will do fine on Lev. The hardest part will be your learning how to use an insulin that is very different than Lev. For example, you do not slide the pre-shot dose. In fact, pre-shot is important only to the degree that you'll know it's safe to shoot. Dosing decisions are based on the lowest value in the cycle. Depending on whether you decide to follow Tight Regulation or Start Low Go Slow will dictate how low numbers need to drop to warrant a reduction. You hold the dose for at least 3 days to evaluate the effectiveness of the dose. Because Lev is a depot type of insulin, doses need to stabilize. For most cats, the nadir on Lev is at around +8.

There are any number of other details but in many ways, it's more of a challenge for a caregiver who has used a shorter acting insulin to switch to a long-acting, depot type of insulin. And we'll be here to help you wrap your head around the changes.

Can u give me an idea of an average cost for this would be

I've not used Lev so I'm not sure. People who are Lev users will be by and can answer your question.

Most people here purchase their insulin from Mark's Marine Pharmacy in Canada. The prices are a fraction of what they are in the US.

I jjust st tried to load k it up and found no matches to that insuln

The nice thing about Levemir, is that the pens last to the final drop if kept in the fridge. I would recommend that form over the vial. Neko started on Caninsulin (what Vetsulin was before it was rebranded in the US), and ended up on Levemir. She was much happier on Lev. As Sienne said, the differences are harder in the caregiver to get used to, onset and nadir are later so it will change your test times. A lot, but not all, kitties are a lot flatter BG on Lev.
