? Ear vs paw for checking BG?

I use both. But I have noticed that the front paw is 5 points lower than the ear. In your opinion, which one should I use?

5 point difference is well within the accuracy of a meter. Also, there may be a difference between BG measure at ear and paw pad due to slower response in the different locations. This is based on humans:
According to reports, routine blood glucose level testing before meals or two or more hours after meals from alternate sites are equivalent to fingertip testing.

However, glucose arrives faster in the fingertips than in the arms.

Therefore, testing when blood glucose is falling rapidly or rising rapidly is likely to be less accurate from alternate sites.

Really interesting info!

Would I be correct in thinking, therefore, that for kitties the ear would be considered the primary site and the paw pad the alternative? Or would it be vice versa (paw pads being more akin to fingertips than earlobes)?

I do not know. I would say the paws are primary since they correspond to human fingers. However, cat ears really do not correspond to human alternate sites.
One think IO do remember is that many years ago the Red Cross used to take screening samples (to measure HCT (the amount of red blood cells in the blood)) from the human ear lobe but later changed to the fingertips.
