I have been doing the urine/glucose testing since Tyler was diagnosed. During all of those 4 months he has only had two clear tests.

How often should I be testing his urine please?
Does it matter if the urine was there from sometime overnight ? There is no probs with Ty using an unlittered tray . He will.

Is it because his BG is too high for his kidneys most often than not?

My concern is for his CKD stage II.

The most important part from the diabetes point of view is to check for ketones and if he's had a history of ketones I would check as often as possible to catch the problem at the very beginning, actually checking the urine for glucose is not very helpful if you are home testing since the only thing that this test is telling you is that he's been over 200 (this is the value most dipsticks will show a positive for glucose in urine) in the last hours so the information that you get when you test him with the blood is far more accurate and actually tells you how he's

I know that the time that passes between when he actually peed and you tested will affect the results you get for PH ( it would appear more alkaline than it really is ) and density ( both of which you probably monitor because of his CKD) so it would be better to take them from a fresh sample, but not sure about ketones

If you are testing for ketones with blood via the meter you don't need to test urine for diabetes, you can program your testing as you need for monitoring his CKD, and yes if he was high all night his glucose in urine will come up high in a morning test

The Renal Threshold differs for each cat but it's usually somewhere between 230 and 250. It's the point that glucose is spilling into the urine rather than being handling properly. Keeping numbers under that threshold helps with kidney issues.

I see your cats bg isn't as s bad now. Is he still abnormally hungry?

For the arthritis ask your vet about adequan shots. They make a huge difference.

Did you see that husband managed to prise lab results from the clinics vice like grip. Still trying to figure them out from all the printout and get them onto the SS.

Tyler's hunger is nowhere near as utterly manic as it was. He is still abnormally interested in food compared to how he has been all his life BUT from reading here , it is good that he has the interest in food.

This. In spades.

I learned all about the danger of feline inappetence the hard way. Thanks to a dreadful vet practice I lost my beautiful angel on four paws, Danú, to hepatic lipidosis. She was at the vets for the best part of a week but they did sod all to get food into her. I asked them to let me come in to try to feed her and they refused my request. She had no underlying disease and she was only seven years of age. It still haunts me, I'm still angry at them for failing her* and I still ache for her.

* They really screwed up with Saoirse as well (point blank refused to run any diagnostics when I first brought Saoirse to them with symptoms of what I now know was diabetes - they just wrote her off as an 'old lady' who had had a 'good innings'.) Shortly thereafter we moved to a different practice.
