? Best way to weigh my sugar baby?

I'd like to have some idea how much my Jester weighs without having to go to the vet.

Does anyone else do this at home? And if so, what's the most economical method folks use?

I've been considering asking on a neighborhood website to see if anyone has a used baby scale, or something like that, that I can pick up frugally. Is this a reasonable option?

Or is there a better option folks have?

I have a baby/pet scale that I use. If you can find one cheap, I recommend it. I love mine. I have seen someone else on here say they weigh themselves then pick up the cat and figure the difference. If you have a home scale already, that would be the cheapest way. It might not be quite as accurate, but should give you a good enough idea.
 
Same here with the baby digital scale. Worth every penny and wish I'd bought one years earlier.

Being able to do regular weight checks at home (e.g. weekly) makes it infinitely easier to achieve/maintain ideal weight because you can adjust the amount you feed very dynamically. The additional peace of mind that comes with getting reliable weight readings and also having that bit of extra control of a kitty's regimen is a very welcome bonus! :)

That’s what I have done as well (home scale + math), though if you are concerned about tracking weight loss it’s not as precise as you might like, as there can be a several ounce difference based on how you stand on the scale with and without the cat. Depending on the evenness of your flooring (mine are wonky in a 100 year old building) if you don’t have the scale in the exact location it was on previous weight, that can be a significant difference in measurement also! But it definitely helped me see if he was still in weight loss free fall. He’s not, thankfully. Knock on wood!

I've had people suggest this, but it never seems to work for me. That's why I thought it would be better to get something more suited for a small body.

Well, it is not accurate enough for my taste which is why I got a scale that is for babies/pets. Of course, I also use an AlphaTrak :smuggrin: I was just mentioning it as an option that would not cost you anything (assuming you have a people scale).
 
I haven’t been able to find a baby scale, so i use a regular scale and do the math. It’s probably not the most accurate, but it will work for now.
 
Here it is...I don't remember paying that much though - more like $100

ETA: I bought it for my cat that was put on weight loss program and did not want to pack her up and take her to the vet every month. It has saved me time and gas money! And very comparable to the vets $1000 scales. Only a gram or two different.
 
Tux likes being picked up and cuddled (took a long time to get him to that state, he started out real squirmy, but I managed it), so I do the math on a regular digital home scale that is accurate to within 0.1 pounds with and without cat. If you do it every morning and average out the weights for a week, you pretty much have an idea whether your baby is gaining or losing weight. Consistency is the key. One measurement on something as inaccurate as a home scale isn't going to do the job. If you just want to measure every few days, the baby scale is definitely the way to go.

You betcha! I love the scale. I can keep an eye on Jones and Rain (KD) plus see how my fat mama is doing on her diet and we have a teenager that needed to lose weight as well. It was funny because the one vet doing the weight loss program told me that I wouldn't be able to find a scale that could compare to theirs. Ha, I am always within a few grams and one time I weighed Jones and took him that afternoon - spot on!

Yep. And all cats need to be on the same page before moving to the next step. I think once it is up and running you will really enjoy it.
