Edit: Donations tax exempt? Accidentally overdosed probiotic, please advise

I accidentally gave Angel a little over 3 gms of the probiotic Probiocin (he was to have one gm a day -- did not give him any yesterday, though). He is on antibiotics and has IBD so is on probiotics. Advice please?

It won't happen again. I just got the Probiocin and had not realized how to operate the dispenser so an overdose does not happen (I do now). He also had 1 gm two days ago. Thank you.

Thank you, everyone, you're the best! Feel a lot less worried now. He certainly is doing fine, all purrs and cuddles and cuteness, although any gastric issues might take a while to show up. A lovely holiday season and new year to all of you!
 
Quick question: This is such a marvelous site and we're so grateful for it and for all of you wonderful, kind, helpful folk, and will be making a donation this weekend when we finally sit down to our end-of-year contributions. Are donations to this site US-tax-exempt by any chance? (we'll make the contribution regardless, of course, but just thought I'd ask). :bighug::bighug:
 
I have no idea about tax exemptions, you've caught me at the end of my day so my intellect is running on empty. You could start a thread with that question in Community, I'm sure a lot of people have the same thoughts. :):banghead:

You're not supposed to post the same general question or thought in two forums. That's the only rule aside from the common sense stuff. I have to get started on my cookies. :woot:
 
I just noticed you edited the title of the thread, didn't know you could do that. Some people might have read this earlier and thought "problem solved" and moved on so that's why it's better to start a new thread. Now I'm going.
 
But I once got rebuked cos someone thought I'd posted twice in a day ( two completely different posts on the same day :() -- although all I'd done was go back to a previous post to thank someone. So now I'm verrah verrah careful. (and speaking of ODing and cookies...those two go together a little too easily)

That's what I was told on the occasion I last mentioned -- that it's better to change the title and stick to one thread rather than begin another (although I agree with you; it would make more sense to begin a new thread, although I can see that that might result in some folks hogging the board and posting too much in a day). Jes followin' directions! In this case the problem is indeed resolved, so no worries :).

Don't know who 'rebuked' you, but I have not heard of there being a problem with having two different posts in the same day. Now when someone posts the same thing in two or three places, that is a bit annoying, but I have seen even that happen. To ask your question on the donations, you may want to email webmaster@felinediabetes.com.
 
I wonder if things have changed recently, hmmm, and are less strict now. I've actually seen that 'rule' somewhere (I remember reading it when I joined about a year ago), which is why I had actually been careful never to do the 'two thread' thing, lol. The person is actually wonderful and VERY helpful, and immediately apologized when they realized they'd made a mistake and I had not in fact begun two posts -- just one post, and then commented in an older post which is why that older post seemed to show up as a new one. Oh well, all that is small stuff, no sweat. The important thing is that this is an amazing site and I have so much gratitude for the admins plus all the members. To me, this site is an example of the best the internet can be.
 
I think it may be an Lantus/Levemir forum guideline-- that place is so busy, and there are people trying to keep track of multiple cats at once, so they're pretty strict about the one-post-per-day rule.
 
FYI, the general rule of thumb on the Feline Health board is to start a new thread for a new topic/question. If you want to ask something about several different topics on the same day there's no reason why you shouldn't post one thread per topic.

On the ISG boards - most notably on the L&L board - there is a huge volume of traffic every day so they ask that you do one thread per day (the daily condo), since this makes it more manageable for thread responders to keep track of each cat.

Agreed: I can totally see why that rule exists. That was indeed Lantus/Levimir land, and frankly it's important to have good admins making sure folks are following basic protocol on the internet -- as you all point out, that is a heavily trafficked forum with people trying to keep track of multiple cats in a day, so it's a good idea to try and streamline things. I was simply explaining why I changed my subject-line rather than begin a new thread. Hugs and Purrs to all!
 
Probiotics and donation tax exemption are unrelated topics, so probably a pretty good example of when two posts would be fine. There is no issue with having to worry about confusion or needing to see comments from both together. ;)

If you're looking for great charities to donate to, I can't recommend DCIN enough.

Diabetic Cats In Need supplies insulin, syringes, testing supplies and support to low-income caregivers who'd have to euthanize or give up their cats due to not being able to afford to treat them.

They also help with vet bills like when cats are in DKA, which can cost thousands of dollars per cat. We just recently paid over $3000 for one cat and have another one in crisis right now whose bill has climbed to over $5000 (but it's looking like he's going to be coming home tomorrow!!!)

Every dime is used to care for the kitties....none goes to "administrative costs" or salaries

Oh there are WAY too many great charities we're choosing from already :), and will only be able to include some, but I appreciate the information. We specifically want to donate to this site since we think it is performing a very important function and helps so many people :bighug: and we are very grateful to it and all those who are administrators and contributors, and can think of no better way than to keep supporting the site itself. Ah, well do we know those vet costs, we have three elderly kitties and are very stressed with those rising vet costs for all three :(:arghh:.
