Jester's BG has been in the mid-100s the last couple of checks and I've been giving him .5u of Prozinc each time.

Tonight he shot up to 290 on his PMPS.

I'm considering giving him a full 1U this time.

Thoughts? I'm already a little late - almost an hour - because my class let out late and I'd rather not be much later.

I don't use ProZinc but I see you're on a time crunch

I think for safety's sake, I'd stick with the .5 for tonight....last time you gave 1U it dropped him down into the 50's and cats tend to go lower at night

It's really important that you try to get at least a "before bed" test on the PM cycle....without that, you have no idea what he's doing half the time and it's important for his safety overnight

Considering it's nearly 9:30 now and Jester is eating, what time would a before bed BG be?

Just gave him his .5u, btw.

Depends on what time you go to bed....LOL

We'd like to see at least a +2 or +3 every PM cycle....that would let you know how quickly he's dropping and if it's important that you set an alarm (if necessary) to get another test in later in the cycle

Some of the problems for me with more than two BG checks per day is that I'm going to run out of strips.
I am not financially capable of purchasing the equipment necessary.

My intent is to get a monitor with less expensive test strips through the gift cards I have for Amazon. But I need to feel as confident with a replacement as I do with my OneTouch.

Out of pocket expenses will force me to choose between my utilities and Jester's well-being.

All meters are allowed to have the same 20% variance by the FDA....I truly understand how you feel about your One Touch, but if you can find one with more affordable strips on Amazon, I really think it's worth it to just do it.

I'm considering the Contour or the Contour Next. According to a CSR for the manufacturer, the Next needs less blood than the older model.

OneTouch is sending me 10 test strips, which will help for a few more days. Right now I have less than 40 left, so I'll need to make a decision pretty soon.

Do you think you could split the difference and give .75?

They make U40's with half unit markings (or you can use U100's with the conversion chart) or you can make up a "sample" syringe with colored liquid of some kind to compare to

Sincerely doubt I can guess it to .75.
I've been guessing on the .5U.
And I can't afford to waste syringes either.

No, I can't afford to buy more syringes. The only reason I have any syringes right now is because someone here sold them to me at a ridiculously low cost. And the money I used for that was a present someone gave me to treat myself to something.

I've said over and over again, I am in a financially unstable position. I'm paying almost $100 a month for canned cat food for three cats right now. There's absolutely nothing extra for anything.

I haven't even had the money to get my bangs trimmed at a cheap salon for three months.

Please stop making me feel worse about my life than I already do.

I really don't mean to make you feel bad.....with the number of people I try to help, it's really hard for me to remember details about each person's life and I don't usually have the time to go back and read older posts. I'm sorry if I upset you....I totally understand how it is to be poor

And I can't afford to waste syringes either.

You can use an old syringe as the "sample"....that way you'd have something to compare to, even on the .5 dose. It's not so important that it's exactly .5 or .75.....just that it's as consistent as possible

If he's over 300 in the morning, I think you'd be fine to try the 1U again

I can appreciate that you might not be able to remember everyone's lives.
But I replied to you in this same post that I'm having financial trouble just trying to afford the test strips.

And I do appreciate you giving me advice about Jester's situation. But not everyone can afford all the extra testings or alternative medical equipment that others can.
