I know. Frustrating. Although I did do a fur shot and I was early with his shot on Sunday night (5:30pm) and therefore late the next day as it was 6:10pm next morning. It’s very hard to be consistently 12 hrs apart. I do as close as possible and I know that early acts an increase and late acts like a decrease but those little changes are inevitable. I’m never more than an hour late or early. Frustrated I’m back up in pinks for preshots. With the numbers you have, Silver is flat...I wonder if there is something in store for today...
That is your 8th cycle on 1.5U...hmmm.
Yes it’s correct but I wasn’t sure if I should increase before doing the mini curve because I don’t know for sure where the dose is taking him at nadir. I know I got a few extra tests in on Sunday and he was mostly still pink and yellow so an increase likely. It’s just the early Nov green and yellow AMPS and PMPS that are confusing me. Why such good numbers in less than half his current dose. I need to try and understand. He was only on 0.25u then. You do the best you can. There is times I had to bounce Jones shot around a half hour here or there.
So, SLGS, you hold for 7 days - 14 cycles. It is 8 cycles as of this morning since the fur shot. You may be doing an increase on Thursday morning? So that Saturday mini curve may help see where the new dose is taking Silver as you will be 4 cycles in?
Not sure if my math is correct.
It’s just the early Nov green and yellow AMPS and PMPS that are confusing me.
It’s been mostly pinks and yellows tho.
Does this mean he is going to bounce? He's not been this low in a while.
Ok. I know from before that he used to go up quite a bit with food. I’ll grab another couple tests tonight. Worried he may go below 5 at nadir and I won’t know about it. And on SLGS I should be reducing. He may very well bounce....you don't have enough +1 data to know what kind of "food bump" he usually gets, so going from 166 to 221 in an hour may be the beginning of a bounce (or it may be a food bump)
I'd plan on getting a +2 and let's see where he's at then
But no matter what, it's nice to see some blue!!
Example of an ACTIVE, but NOT necessarily typical Lantus cycle:
NOTE: Until kitty is pretty well regulated, the description below is NOT not what you'd consider a "typical" Lantus cycle. It takes time and patience for kitty to achieve a "typical" cycle! The example below is what you're working towards (a nice shallow curve). A relatively flat cycle is the ultimate goal.
+0 - PreShot number.
+1 - Usually higher than PreShot number because of the last shot wearing off. May see a food spike in this number.
+2 - Often similar to the PreShot number. Onset begins around +2 for most cats. You'll probably see an active cycle if the +2 is the same/similar OR lower than the preshot number. Continue testing!
+3 - Often lower than the PreShot number.
+4 - Lower.
+5 - Lower.
+6 - Nadir/Peak (the lowest number of cycle. NOTE: ECID. Not every cat has a mid-cycle nadir. Adjust the hours on this example to fit your cat.)
+7 - Surf (hang around the nadir number).
+8 - Slight rise.
+9 - Slight rise.
+10 - Rising.
+11 - Rising (one of the quirks of Lantus/Levemir: some cat's blood glucose numbers dip around +10 or +11... not to be confused with nadir).
+12 - PreShot number.
An active Levemir cycle will have an onset at approximately +4 and a nadir around +8 - +10. However, please keep in mind every cat is different (ECID). Data collection will offer you a better picture of YOUR cat's response to either of these insulins.
Initially, don't expect to see "active" cycles after every single shot whether you're using Lantus or Levemir. Chances are, your kitty had diabetes for some time before diagnosis. It requires time for kitty's body to become used to dropping into lower numbers than their bodies have become accustomed. Don't expect immediate results! Regulation takes time and patience.
Yes but like I said - he will have gone below 5 at nadir because at his onset he was at 8. But as I went to bed and didn’t catch it I’ll wait. I know Silver goes lower for +5,6 and 7. According to the SLGS he gets a dose reduction immediately he goes below 5.Awesome progress with the blues. Looks like he'll be safe tonight though. Not sure he'd earn a dose reduction. The ideal range for nadirs on SLGS is 90 to 150. You are almost there.![]()
