I’ve seen a few times on the board that SLGS dose reduction is different for cats diabetic over a year? So when I see Silver go below 5 (90) I DONT reduce? Reducing would worry me that I’d be right back into the pinks when I’m trying so hard to see blues and greens. Unfortunately couldn’t do a curve this weekend and I think he is a) recovering from the furshot and b) not enough days yet to see where this dose increase is taking him.

Will try and get some tests at +10 and in the pm cycle as I’m home.

Newbie here with no great advice. But my experience of missing a shot (when my guy hid out from me) set us back a bit. Seems to have recovered. Hoping Silver soon does too.

Also I always feed at amps and pmps as that’s when I’m home during the week. But at weekends Silver and his sibling start asking for food three hours or so before his shot. If I fed him won’t that mess up his pmps?

Actually this is only in the TR notes. It does not apply to SLGS.
recovering from the furshot
When you have a fur shot, the cycle count starts over. According to SLGS you should do a curve once a week. With the fur shot, it's best to wait until next weekend to see what he is doing on this dose. As you gather more data, you may be able to know better if he needs a dose increase or reduction in spite of the fur shot.

It's best not to feed two hours before AMPS and PMPS so the numbers won't be food influenced. If you have any freeze dried treats, you can give those to help tide him over as these have no carbs.

You'll get the hang of things. Keep asking questions. Most of it comes down to knowing your cat and learning his patterns. That just takes time.

Thanks. So if he gets a below 5 I’m supposed to lower his dose. That scares me as on the lower dose he doesn’t do so well. See his ss. Didn’t work.

If Silver and his best bud are bugging you 3 hours before AMPS, give him a test. Data is always good! And if he's high enough, don't worry about giving snacks. The "no feed two hours before shot" is more a concern when they are low. You don't want to shoot an artificially high number that is influenced by carbs. On the other hand, carbs after nadir can shorten duration and give you a higher number at preshot. Late cycle snacks should be zero carb if possible.

What a cat needs now for insulin dose may be completely different in a couple weeks time as cat's insulin needs change over time. Once he's reached a dose where he's getting close to 5/90, you hold the dose. Ideal SLGS nadirs are from 90 to 150.

Thanks that’s helpful.

I'm glad you think so. It boggles my mind as I still just don't get it.
Anyway. Hope you and Silver see nothing but blues and greens soon as .
Thanks. I’m getting more used to it as it’s second time around for me and Silv but he was in remission so quickly the last time I was hoping the same would happen again. No so much. I think we are going in the right direction tho as numbers are coming down a bit.

Not coming down too much at +4. He’s on Fancy Feast classics but food must drive him far up? See what +6 brings.
