Good Day

Have a female feline friend (Goma)recently diagnosed with diabetes. I am retired and living in Okinawa with my wife of 40 years. We have many many other feline friends that I provide for the best I can.

Very limited to resources here and was grateful to find this forum. Will post in medical (?) area soon as I need a lot of advice and guidance.

Kindest Regards

Greg

Thank you for the welcome. All my feline friends are former feral so specific age may be difficult however I will certainly comply with the information you mentioned when I post.

It's not always necessary to spend a fortune. You're in the right place and you've done a good thing taking care of ferals, their lives are hard enough already. A diabetic cat would die a meaningless death without care so you go to the front of the line in my book.
You may find the time differential frustrating if you have an emergency. Sometime people will say "Should I do this when I feed him at 6PM?" Just something to think about.

Thank you for the response and welcome. It is expensive here however I will continue to care for Goma and the others as long as I am able. I hope the time difference doesn’t come into play but am trying to prepare for the worse case scenario. Again thanks for the welcome.

Oh man you're breaking my heart. If you've been married for 40 years you're old enough that I don't need to give you a speech about lessons in life but animals will first empty your wallet and then break your heart. Please be careful. This is coming from someone who has lost eight cats and a dog in the last 3 years.

Understand what you are saying and I too have lost many in the last several years. Thank you and I really don’t mean to break any hearts.

Welcome to the diabetes club. I hope we can help you with some good tips. Over the last 2.5 years I have found Ebay to be a good source for test strips. And I get my insulin off the grey market from the Supply Closet in the subforum here - for a good discount off normal retail cost.

Thanks for the welcome and tips. Being here has its down side including obtaining supplies. Fortunately my daughter in Florida has offered to serve as middle person for things I order. I just ordered the monitor and some strips from Amazon.

Thank you for the welcome. I viewed your video and now feel a bit better. I am bringing Goma home tonight from the vet and will be performing the tests here at home. So already being a part of this forum has benefited me. Thank you again.
Oh good I'm glad you found it helpful! If you need help don't hesitate to ask

We have people here from all around the world and from many time zones. You shouldn't have to wait long if you have a problem.
