Confused :/ Lower AMPS & PMPS, Higher +6

Hi! I just started home testing Dominic (thanks to the guidance provided by the wonderful people on this message board) and I'm confused by the results so far. The AMPS & PMPS numbers are high 200s and the +6 numbers are high 300s. Isn't it supposed to be higher before the shot and lower in between?

A bit of background info: Dominic was diagnosed in September 2017 (BG was 567) and was receiving 3 units of Lantus twice a day since then, until this week. I switched him from Iams dry food to Friskies Classic Pate canned food on Wednesday, so I reduced the dose to 1 unit twice a day. All tests for ketones were negative.

He's very happy with the new food and doesn't seem to mind the testing too much, but he has been very mushy today and the neuropathy has gotten to the point where he can only take a few steps at a time. I am so confused and scared :(
 
Hi. Word of encouragement re the neuropathy. My Silver was so bad he could hardly stand. Folks on here said to give B12 (known as Zobaline I believe in the US). So long as it’s the methylcobalamin not the cyano kind it should clear up. Two weeks on b12 and Silver was playing like a kitten again.

Sorry I don’t understand re the higher numbers at +6 either but am sure someone more experienced will jump in.

Try and get a full curve done on a day off (testing every two hours) to get an idea as to his nadir (lowest point). It’s from the nadir that you’ll see if a dose increase or decrease is needed. Those numbers aren’t nearly as bad as the over 500’s that many newly diagnosed cats see.
 
Also make sure the nadir (mid point) test is 2 hours after any food.

Leo also had real bad neuropathy. This was last year before he got the SRT radiation for the Acromegaly. We were considering the big decision. In summary, we also gave him Zobaline AND I got his blood sugar regulated. Both of those are key to recovering from neuropathy. Now he is 95% of normal for neuropathy, so there is hope.

You may want to search neuropathy in the forums, it is a common topic.

A reverse cure can mean that the insulin dose should be increased. This is because food causes BG to rise and if there is not enough insulin to counteract that, BG between shots like at can be higher that the preshot.
With enough insulin it is not unexpected to have the +1 and sometimes the +2 be higher than the preshot since it can take longer for the insulin to lower BG than food to raise BG.
Lantus id a depot insulin so it takes 2-3 days for the depot to be filled and thus for the dose to have its full effect on BG.

The deal with neuropathy is that it is nerve damage. The damage takes time to recover. It took Leo several months. That was with regulated blood glucose plus the Zobaline daily. He had it real bad and was barely getting around. Now he jumps up onto the couch like his younger days.
