Hi
My kitty is boarding in two weeks. He has always had high numbers up until this last few days now he's dropping to as low as 80's at nadir. Is this ok? I keep staying up every night as I'm worried he's going to drop below 65 and hypo.

When he's boarding they are only testing pre-shot so I'm kind of concerned. If someone could take a look at our spreadsheet and see what they think we should do. I don't really want to take his dose down as I feel we may have finally got him regulated after 3 months of hard work but at same time I dont want him having a hypo while he is boarding.

I did notice last night when he started to get to the low numbers he was dropping more slowly is this normal? I've found so far on high numbers he drops very fast.

Thanks all

When it's a little closer to boarding time, ask again and we can give you a better idea of what might be a safe dose while he's there

Usually we suggest dropping the dose a little so if they don't eat normally or aren't getting tested, they at least stay safe, even if they run a little higher

I had to do the same when I went away for ten days. My pet sitter could not get the hang of testing at all. So I halved the dose so he was getting at least some. And I took him back up when I returned.

Well for Oscar when we change dose it tends to take about two weeks to settle. I have wondered about dropping the dose from 2.5 units to 2 units while we are away but its a shame when he's just got almost regulated on 2.5 units.

You are right to be concerned. I would probably drop the dose as well if they aren't going to nadir test. If they could do some nadir testing, it would be helpful.

An issue we had with boarding Leo, is that he heavily reduced his eating. That will affect BG and could cause issues too. Our poor boy lost 1 pound during 9 days of boarding. If your kitteh reduces eating then they will have to alter the dose lower as well.

On a daily basis, I dose Leo less at night because he doesn't eat much after 9pm.
- AM dose = 4.5 units
- PM dose = 2.5 to 3.0 units

I think I will drop him to 2 units AM and PM and start again when I get back. I think Oscar will be the same from looking at his readings, think he will need a higher dose of insulin in the AM and less at PM, dont know why because he eats the same amount. I will talk this over with the vet when we get back. Thanks
