Hi i was wanting to know what all you raw feeders do if Or when your kitties drop in to Low numbers? I was told that a lot of you by someone here on the board do not feed the high carb can food because it upsets the GI tract. So i was wanting to hear from all of you raw feeders as to what you do or have done when your kitties numbers go low. Thank you all. :)

You can add Karo or honey to the food. You might want to buy a few cans of fancy feast gravy lovers just to have on hand. You just give just the gravy if they go low and they might be ok with it. I’m feeding my kittens raw now but give a little canned a few times a week so should I need to feed it for any reason I know they are used to it. I never fed Max raw.

I use Karo. Starting with literally a drop and up to 1/4 tsp. Have only done it a few times but it works and have had no adverse reaction GI wise.

I just use some of the FF Gravy Lovers.....I think the reason some people have with using a high carb food has to do with the cat having problems with the food in the first place, but if your cat can tolerate FF any other time and you're just feeding raw now due to the benefits of feeding raw, you can use FF without any problem when you need to steer the numbers.

I have used the FF gravy, various other canned foods that are MC and put a drop of honey in Asia's regular raw food. A very good idea to have options, better that they eat something when the numbers are low and have a little tummy trouble than to not eat and go hypo. It's also nice that they have some special "treat" food for these times, to be more encouraged to eat. My biggest fear is that Asia will refuse food when I need her to eat, so I have lots of options on hand and deal with the fallout when the episode is over. Touch wood, she hasn't had any tummy upset from it, but in the past (before diabetes) she has reacted when I changed her food.

The FF gravy lovers has wheat that can cause GI upset to some kitties, it did my girl. You can add syrup or honey, or look for an alternative canned. Some of the higher carb foods use potato for carbs. Weruva makes a few. There are higher carb freeze dried raw made by Honest Kitchen, their Grace and Prowl, which also have potatoes. In the US you can get sample packs to try out. Not in Canada, so I never used them cause I could only buy them in large quantities.

Thank you all so very much for your advice and options! I pray i never have to use any but i want to be prepared for it if i have too. Thanks again!!!:cat:

I used to feed Jimmy FF before transitioning to raw. He did like it but then again he’s a Hoover and never had a problem eating anything. Lol The concern about GI is that let’s say you’ve been eating healthy whole foods and then have a meal that contained fried food or heavy creams, you’re system gets a little “interrupted”. Or you go from eating processed foods to having salads and more roughage. Same result. Belly upset. That’s why when transitioning to raw has to be done slowly. But the benefits are stunning though...no more smell from the litter, less litter box visits as the food is being absorbed and used more efficiently, they always finish a meal in one sitting, and their coats are incredibly soft and shiny with less dander, and their energy levels are increased - they are almost kitten-like again. I keep the hypo kit on hand still just in case but go for the Karo first.

Do you feed only raw with no supplement?? I have been told that only raw is not a complete or nutrition food but my cat will not eat it if i mix it with other things or vitamins she will eat plane chicken breast?? Is it complete food!!!

I think most people are speaking of a raw complete diet, as opposed to just a raw chicken breast or something. They make commercially prepared complete raw foods here.

Plain chicken breast would not be a complete food, the raw complete diets contain organ meat and bone (or eggshell) and sometimes other vitamins and supplements.

I make a balanced raw diet as i have for years. It has vitamins, supplements, egg yolks, organ meat, chicken and bone. All put through a meat grinder and portioned out into freezer jars.
